The cool fall weather is all around us now. The trees in our neighborhood have lost almost all of their leaves. At this time of the year, we love to get baking in the kitchen. The warmth of baking in the kitchen turns it into the true heart of the home. This fall, we wanted to find a way to incorporate one of our favorite Canadian flavors, maple syrup, into our baking. We usually include maple syrup in our cooking, not in our baking.
Make Some Fall Cookies with this Maple Icing Recipe
We found this lovely recipe for Martha Stewart’s Maple Leaf Cookies. The cookies are light and crisp, but they really need icing… maple icing. So, we came up with this delicious maple syrup icing that was fun to decorate with and dries hard. My daughters had so much fun learning how to drizzle the maple icing over the cookies.
Easy Maple Icing for Delicious Fall Cookies
This maple icing recipe makes the perfect drizzle icing for any sugar cookie or maple-flavored cookie. And it’s easy and fun to make with kids, too. Your child will get good fine motor skill practice while whisking together the sugar and meringue powder, stirring in the maple syrup, and then drizzling the icing over their cookies.
While decorating the cookies, my youngest daughter commented that drizzling the maple icing was just like splatter painting a picture. She’s absolutely correct. This is why decorating cookies in this way is such a fun activity for kids. Everyone loves getting messy in the kitchen, and everyone loves enjoying a freshly baked cookie!
