I don't want to be too optimistic but around 120k pre anime seems 100% reachable

120K within Oricon is my bet for volume 4.
Maybe I'm coping but I can see it reaches 200K in Oricon before anime.

Baffling how Kagurabachi can win Tsugimanga by a 70k margin and people will still fall for the most obvious bait saying "we still need more data points before we can call it popular."

Also baffling how those individuals won't just let the fans celebrate their win. It's pathetic.

I hope you don't mean me...i was doing an ironic version of those messages...

lets not do any revisionism here.

Tsugimanga winners and placers have basically always become uber popular series: MHA, Kaiju 8, SxF, Ruri Dragon, Dandadan, I could go on.

Because a series you didn't think was popular won and one you did think was popular didn't does make it "inaccurate"

quit pulling the wool over your own eyes lmfao

Sure, and I bet you that you've never even read "There's a hole in the student council!".
Would it also surprise you that
GOKURAKUGAI only had 17,316 points? Or that Frieren was behind Oshi No ko by over 38,663 points?

bienmirage said:

less popular than in 2022? yeah I think that's an okay conclusion to make.

That's not what you said though. Less popular isn't equal to not popular.

Frieren didn't had a lot of online buzz around then, but the sales were very good. Also undead unluck won it but still got obliterated in sales

I called out the 'more data points' like a week or two back but it got edited out for personal attacks or something.

All I'll say is that we'll be seeing a need for more data points even after BD sales come out.

I don't see any need to take a victory lap from this though. At the pacing and trajectory things are going, this is just going to be another victory in a long line of other victories. And if there's anything I hate, it's going to more than two weddings in a single month. So I'll just nod my head even if I feel very vindicated.

Bet some people would say they need more data points to prove that Kimetsu no yaiba is popular, or move the goalpost and try to compare it to dragon ball or one piece to make it point

Seitokai actually got a strong boost and is doing really well digitally. It’s not that popular in the west since it didn’t get translated, since it’s hard to translate 4koma

Can't you guys just celebrate the manga achievement without trying to derail the thread with ironic comments or trying to poke others with sticks? It's like the whole discussion became about anything other than celebrating the actual achievement, there's literally not a single hate comment about the series winning but it's like some of you are fighting invisible fights just because someone might point it out something else, it's getting a bit tired already.

Speaking of which but I’m actually, genuinely, surprised Astro didn’t place at all.
Sure it had a rocky start but I know we basically all thought that the fact it was Wakui would have some relevance at all right?

Guess undead unluck is the exception, having worst sexual assault "jokes" than jobless reincarnation probably didn't helped with its popularity, specially with the female crowd. On the other hand I've seen some spaces run by female KGB fans, they either ship chihiro and Hakuri or want to do very sexy things to them, also moms seems to be buying KGB for their children

Can we stop with this narrative that UU is unpopular because of the jokes in chapter 1? There are far worse things going on Shoujo and Josei Manga than in UU. The main thing why UU can't sell is unappealing character designs. They don't fit the current taste and look like they came out of the early 2000s.

It's probably a mix of both, since the first volumes had theses kinds of jokes, peoples are probably not willing to read more until it turn good

Why is Nue taking 7th place even something to put it down for? 7th place is in the top ten, it's pretty alright.

I like how everyone whining about westerners probably also voted. The site also was not geolocked, didn't require a Japanese address or phone number to log in and even had an auto translate function built in. They clearly not only expected but wanted people outside Japan to vote. This is literally the "next big manga" awards. It makes sense that as manga gets more and more popular around the world they want people from around the world to be able to vote.

That's a western view. If you read reviews in Japan, these are not really point of critisim. The number one point against UU is it's unappealing designs. You need attractive men or women to get a readership that's actually invested in your Manga. UU is one of those Manga, most people read and think its good but it doesn't have a hook besides just being good. The characters need to sell. Especially if you are a Jump Manga.

To TsugiManga: I was never a big fan of that award but congrats to KGB. I don't think its as influential to sales as Manga Taisho and KonoManga either. People here can be mad about the western influence in KGB but the second place is also just the Fujoshi Iruma fanbase mass voting the spin off. This award has never really been that representative about anything, other than whats the biggest fanbase which in most cases in Jump.

Very well deserved win to Kagurabachi. Congratulations!

It is about time some people stop be so in denial about its success.
