How does In the Heights end? ›

The story returns to the present day, revealing that Usnavi is telling his story in the remodeled bodega to his and Vanessa's daughter, Iris. Everyone sings and dances in the street, while Usnavi expresses his elation at being in Washington Heights, where he has always belonged (“Finale”).

Romantic Interest. Nina is the first person in her family to go to college (Stanford University), and everyone in the barrio admires her as the "one who made it out." However, she returns home from school for the summer to reluctantly tell her parents that she has become overburdened and dropped out.

There's some swearing, but nothing I hadn't heard before when I watched this at 11, and your kid has probably heard most if not all of the cuss words in this musical already. Also the musical numbers are absolutely great, sometimes I just listen to the soundtrack for fun because there are some great songs.

"The streets were made of music," says Usnavi, a young Dominican immigrant who tells the story of his Latino neighborhood one hot summer.

As of now, there are no plans for a follow-up film, but according to Leslie Grace, the star-studded cast has already started a petition for it. "There is nothing that we would want more in the world," Melissa Barrera told Entertainment Tonight.

Daniela and Carla are portrayed to have a lesbian relationship in the movie adaptation.

Abuela Claudia's loss is deeply felt by the entire community. This scene isn't scary, but it's emotional and might distress some children. Other than the scene noted above, there's nothing of concern in In the Heights for children aged 8-13 years.

Benny and Nina find each other amid the chaos, and despite initially arguing, they finally kiss ("Blackout").

Not for kids, fine for mature ages 11 and up.

In The Heights is a celebration of family, culture, and Latino heritage that I found to be extremely well-done and will certainly pave the way for many more Latino stories to hit the big screen in the coming years.

With a variety of characters representing the stories of many Caribbean immigrants, In The Heights portrays the residents' unique way of life, and celebrates the special ways in which the culture they brought with them has enriched that of New York City itself.

Audience members will understand gentrification more deeply as it is explored throughout the musical along with other central themes, including love, family, community, and the American story of immigration through the lens of the Latinx community.

At the end, the film jumps forward in time, where Usnavi and Vanessa are married and living in Washington Heights. We find out that Usnavi has been narrating the entire story to their daughter, a framing device that's unique to the film.

Chaos ensues, with looters and dangerous individuals taking temporary control of The Heights. As the scary part of the night wears on, some good comes out: Usnavi and Abuela Claudia reunite and discuss the winning ticket, and Benny and Nina finally confirm their love.

As Nina tells Benny of her decision, they agree to spend the summer together before pursuing a long-distance relationship when she returns to school; Benny reaffirms his faith in her, and they promise to keep contacting each other ("When The Sun Goes Down").

In the Broadway version it is revealed in "Paciencia y fe" the song right after "96,000" that Claudia won the lottery. Later in "Hundreds of Stories" she says she will give a third of the money to usnavi, a third for herself, and a third for sonny. Yet in the movie it's not revealed until the end that abuela won.
