Slow Cooker Apple Pie Moonshine
In my husbands family this recipe forCrock-Pot Apple Pie Moonshine is a traditional Christmas Eve beverage. My husbands grandfather has made this mixed drink, or flavored beverage, for years and all the men in the family sit and gather in the basement laughing, telling jokes and sipping on this drink.
It is also given as gifts to all the adults in the family so that we all can sip and savor it all year long.
Once the jars are open you can keep this drink in the refrigerator to drink cold (I think it tastes better cold) and will last all year long (or longer).
Please remember that this is a strong alcoholic adult beverage and it goes without saying that you should keep it away from children and of course, drink responsibly.
Our family uses Everclear which is 195 proof (95% alcohol) which means it is STRONG. Everclear is not always available everywhere, so if you cannot find it at your local liquor store then feel free to use another strong proof alcohol such as vodka.
This recipe makes about 105 shot sized servings. And are these Mason Jar Shot Glasses are PERFECT for serving in!
Equipment Needed For Slow Cooker Apple Pie Moonshine:
Because you are not distilling moonshine in your slow cooker this recipe is not true moonshine. Instead you are flavoring a strong distilled spirit to make a highly alcoholic flavored cocktail.
If I cannot buy Everclear where I live what I can I use instead?
In some states in the US and some countries Everclear is not available. If you do not have access to moonshine or Everclear then we suggest using a high proof vodka.
How long can I store this apple pie moonshine?
When stores in a dark cool place this apple pie moonshine will store for many years. The high alcohol content makes it hard to spoil. You will drink it before it goes bad.

Sip away on this hillybilly cocktail. Made with just three ingredients (apple cider, Everclear and cinnamon) this apple pie moonshine is full of flavor and punch! If you don't have access to Everclear you can use vodka!
Ingredients: 12 lbs apples (tart apples work best) 3 cans 100% apple juice concentrate (frozen) 6 lbs white sugar 6 gallons spring water 2 packets dry yeast (4 ½ teaspoons using bulk yeast) Directions: 1.
Apple cider often has sediment in it, so do not be alarmed if it looks cloudy. Let sit undisturbed for at least 5 days, although I consider a week the minimum. The product must remain cool during aging and storage thereafter.
Storing opened flavored moonshine in the refrigerator prolongs its shelf life. The refrigerator temperatures slow down when the sugars and added flavors go bad. Unopened flavored moonshine can last for years, un-refrigerated and away from sunlight.
If the container is sealed and kept in a secure location (assuming that the manufacturer properly distilled the moonshine), it won't hurt you to take a sip to evaluate the flavor. Although technically safe to drink, moonshine that “goes bad” will have an unpleasant taste.
Fermentation will usually take three to six weeks, depending on temperature and yeast, and once it has ceased, immediately siphon the cider off the sediment into a clean fermenter. Repeat this process after a few weeks or when another sediment has formed. The cider should clear naturally.
If you want to get more of the earthy taste of moonshine in your cocktail, try pairing it with ginger ale (not ginger beer). Sweet ginger ale can make moonshine go down smoother and is a good starting point for those new to drinking moonshine.
If you think your distillate is a little sharp or has a bit too much of that 'alcohol burn,' adding a few drops of glycerine can reduce the harshness, add mellowness and improve mouthfeel. Glycerine is also used by homebrewers to round out the flavour and reduce the ageing time of the spirit.
What Does Moonshine Taste Like? There's no one right answer to this question, as moonshine can taste quite different depending on the recipe and ingredients used. However, many people describe its flavor as being similar to vodka, with a slightly sweet or fruity taste.
Re the apple pie, so long as the alcohol content is above 10-15%, there can be no growth of bacteria. Generally the problem is keeping any of my AP long enough to store lol. My biggest concern would be if you're using cinnamon sticks then it might start to get overpowering after a long sit.
- Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine. “How long will a jar keep unopened.” Different flavors will have different life spans. Generally they will last two years unopened and about six months after opening.
If less than 10 ml of methanol is consumed then the worst someone will experience is a hangover, (albeit, quite possibly the worst hangover of their life). However, if someone consumes 10 ml or more of methanol, even split up among drinks, that can be enough to cause permanent damage or kill them.
For longer-term storage, the freezer will do the trick. Moonshine shouldn't freeze in the freezer, but the cooler temperature will preserve the mixture longer. For best results, fill the jar almost full, cover it with a tight-fitting lid, and don't open it until you are ready to serve or consume.
You can store your apple moonshine in sealed mason jars in a cool, dry place, rather than the refrigerator. And, if you used liquor with a high percentage of alcohol, it should stay fresh for years. Just be sure to keep your jars completely closed and out of the sun.
So, you want to add fruit to your homebrew. Well the amount of fruit you'll need depends on the beer recipe and the type of fruit you are adding, but generally 3-7 pounds will do for a 5 gallon batch of beer. Don't be afraid to experiment with the amounts depending on how much fruit flavor you want in your beer.
You need a good amount of apples to make cider. Approximately 30 to 40 apples will yield one gallon of cider. The apples need to be as ripe as possible. It's OK to use less-than-perfect apples on the ground at any orchard or old apple farm.
On the average, one bushel of apples should yield about 3 to 3 1/2 gallons of cider. This assumes a good press. A bushel of apples is 42-48 lbs The above is for a 48 lb bushel. So you need 2 to 2.5 bushels for 5 gallons with some left over.
