There are many objectives in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate 3. One of these tasks involves a killer on the loose. Naturally, you have to warn the would-be victims. How to Complete Investigate the Murders in Baldur's Gate 3
The Baldur's Gate 3 Investigate the Murders quest occurs during the third act. Specifically, you need to finish the Open Hand Temple Murders quest beforehand. The objective leads you to Fraygo's Flophouse in Rivington, where you'll find the kill list. You'll also talk to Inspector Valeria about the mysterious deaths that have been happening. She'll task you with reporting to Gauntlet Devella.
The Kill List
When you first read the kill list, you'll notice that several people have already been taken out. These include Duke Stelmane (the Emperor's former partner), Father Lorgan (from the Open Hand Temple), and Dribbles the Clown (whose body parts have been scattered all over the city). Gauntlet Devella Bug
Your task, for now, is to meet up with Gauntlet Devella in Elfsong Tavern, which is right next to the Basilisk Gate waypoint. Here's the kicker: this segment might bug out completely. Here's what you need to know:
Make sure you keep a backup save before entering the tavern.
Devella is in a second-floor suite, the one where Duke Stelmane was found murdered.
Talk to the two Flaming Fist guards so they let you go upstairs. If you enter the room and Devella is nowhere to be found, just reload your save.
If you enter and she's there, talk to her about the killings. She'll ask you to warn those that are on the list.
Note: You also have the option to go the evil route. Instead of warning potential victims, you can take them out instead and cut off their hands as proof of your deeds. This action will come into play soon enough (we discuss this part later in our Baldur's Gate 3 Investigate the Murders guide).
Which NPCs Can You Save
NPCs will be marked on your map, so make sure to check the icons. You could visit each location, though some of them are already dead by the time you arrive (i.e. Alexander Rainforest and Franc Peartree). Others, however, can still be saved.
Chef Roveer
Location: Elfsong Tavern Kitchen
Tell him that he's on a kill list. He's not too worried about it, and he asks you to kill some rats in the basement instead. The basement itself also leads to the Emperor's Hideout.
Cora Highberry
Location: Wine Festival
Mention that a murderer is out to get her. The Dwarf next to her, Dolor, will panic. He'll reveal himself as the culprit. This leads to a battle where you have to take out four of his copies.
Figaro Pennygood
Location: Facemaker's Boutique
Upon arriving, you'll see that Dolor has paralyzed both Devella and Figaro. Respond by telling them to stop so you can keep them both alive. If you dawdle around or stay quiet, the murderer will slay the victim and run off. But, if you tell him to stop, you can fight him and his goons.

After taking out Dolor, you can pick up various goodies. The most important for the Baldur's Gate 3 Investigate the Murders quest is a container. Inside, you'll see your gory prize: four hands that have been cut off (that's why it's called a "handbag," right?).
Dolor is the same person who killed Duke Stelmane, Father Lorgar, and the other two NPCs. He's collecting their hands to prove himself worthy of a god's blessing. You might know who that deity is. In any case, the next step is to seek the Murder Tribunal.

Players can discover more about the murder by checking the lower level of the temple, but the evidence the party needs is across the street from the Sharess' Caress. Head into Fraygo's Flophouse, take the stairs to the second floor, then take the ladder to the third floor. The ladder is on the wall facing the street.
Return to Valeria and give her the evidence found in the journal to complete the quest as you solve Logan's murder once and for all. This will prove Brilgor's innocence and allow your party to track down other instances of the Bhaalist Cult's plot.
After leaving the Open Hand Temple, Valeria can be found drinking upstairs in Sharess' Caress (X:24, Y:92). Speaking with Valeria and selecting "Afraid so - I've found new evidence, Investigator." allows the party to share the results of their investigation.
You'll pass through it into a secret room, where you can investigate a Bloodstained Parchment on the desk. This reveals the murderer's plans, which you can now take to Investigator Valeria.
For that reason, we suggest freeing and not mutilating this new lifeform. Us is basically a small, temporary advantage in the earliest chapter of the game - a controllable, and pretty powerful (if limited) ally who has a lot of health and some good melee attacks that match many of the standard Baldur's Gate 3 weapons.
To summarize, players should side with the Emperor if they don't want to become Mind Flayers, and they should free Orpheus if they don't mind risking having tentacles on them or their companions.
Also, freeing Valeria earns the party her gratitude, and she'll give a good report to the people of Baldur's Gate. In turn, the City Watch will come to the party's aid in the final boss battle.
Should you Let Astarion Bite You? Letting Astarion bite you is an easy way to get approval with him. The simple answer is yes, as the only downside is gaining the Bloodless debuff, while Astarion gains the Happy buff and his approval rating of you increases.
Generally speaking, you shouldn't force Lae'zel to obey Vlaakith. If she goes against Vlaakith, Lae'zel leaves for the Astral Plane at the end of the game and leads a rebellion to save her people. If she sides with Vlaakith, Withers implies that she meets a much darker fate during the epilogue party.
Valeria Velez was a Colombian journalist who had a romantic relationship with Medellín cartel boss Pablo Escobar from 1981 to 1991. She was murdered by Los Pepes for being "Pablo's whore" in 1993.
The basic parts of an investigation report include an executive summary, preliminary case information, incident summary, allegation subject details, investigation details and notes, investigation interviews, evidence documentation, conclusion and recommendations, and final edits.
Father Lorgan will reveal that Brilgor is not the person who killed him, but rather that he was killed by a "dwarf dressed in red." After speaking to Father Lorgan, players should keep the character who is capable of speaking with the dead in their party, as their task is not yet done.
Magnifying Glass is a common Miscellaneous Item. Primarily of use for bartering or sale to Traders. The frame and handle are scratched and coarse, but the lens is unblemished, revealing every detail with great precision.
To save time, head to Figaro's store in Baldur's Gate 3, marked on your map with a waypoint. Barge past the waiting guests and into the salon, and you'll find both Figaro and Devella paralyzed by Dolor. If you want to save Figaro, don't go for the Stealth option.
You can obey Vlaakith or choose to side with Orpheus, and your decision will change Lae'zel's fate at the end of the game. Generally speaking, you shouldn't force Lae'zel to obey Vlaakith. If she goes against Vlaakith, Lae'zel leaves for the Astral Plane at the end of the game and leads a rebellion to save her people.
You can lie to Aradin about finding Nightsong or tell him the truth. He'll demand a cut of the reward since he's the one who gave you the contract, and you can either agree or talk him out of it. Aradin will move aside and leave you alone, and you can head inside.
Players must first let Astarion drink their character's blood, then follow his quest line to the end, resulting in him becoming a more powerful party member. The player character can't fully become a vampire, but they can also gain some vampiric power after Astarion ascends.
