Baldur’s Gate 3: Investigate the Suspicious Toys

As soon as you enter the city of Baldur’s Gate in Act 3, you can go and find Investigate the Suspicious Toys. To start it, head over to the east starting from the Rivington Waypoint. You should see a large wooden barn with plenty of guards and refugees standing around outside. Once here, speak to Manip Nestor who’s the Dwarf at the front desk.

When speaking to him, first choose Donations for what? This then opens up a Persuasion option that says I’d like to take the donation into the barn myself. Now this is a DC 20 roll, so you should use whichever character has the highest Charisma, along with any other benefits. When you succeed this roll, head into the barn and walk to the left and around the corner. It’s here that you’ll find a crate full of suspicious teddy bears.

You need to pass an Investigation check to spot the trap that’s in the pile of bears. And to disarm them you’ll need to pass another DC 20 roll, so use the character that would be best suited for the job. Once you do disarm the trap, Manip Nestor will run in and demand an explanation, to which you can tell him the truth. There’ll be another Persuasion or Deception check here but it’s only a DC 15 roll so it’s not too hard to pass. This will then start the quest for Investigate the Suspicious Toys.

Find the Culprit

Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t give many clues as to who could be responsible for the trapped toys. In fact, you may find yourself stumped about where to even begin. Fortunately, I know the answer so you don’t have to run around for ages talking to every NPC in the area.

Head out of the barn and walk up to the large house just northeast of the Rivington Waypoint. This is Arfur Gregorio’s house, and if you haven’t been up here yet, Arfur will be busy dealing with refugees trying to stay in his house. Deal with this situation any way you want, as long as it doesn’t involve in Arfur’s death. Afterward, go into the house and enter the basem*nt through a hatch in the backroom. The hatch is locked with a DC 18 lock so once again bring out your Rogue for this job.

Down in the basem*nt, there will be a lot of traps. Try to disarm a few of them as you go to avoid a chain reaction that deals a ton of damage. As you’ll soon find out, explosions are a theme of this quest in Baldur’s Gate 3. Our target down here is a trapped and locked chest in the back. There’s not a great deal of loot in this chest, but there is a letter that proves Arfur is the one responsible for the trapped toys.

Once you have the evidence in your hands, you’ll need to confront Arfur himself. He’ll either be in his house if you convinced the refugees to leave, or he’ll be at Sharess’ Caress in Baldur’s Gate. Arfur will attempt to bribe you, and while you can accept this, it would be a pretty boring way to end the quest. Instead, you should question Arfur about who he’s working for. This will give way to an Intimidation check that will get the truth out of Arfur.

Investigate Felogyr’s Fireworks

From this point, we need to get to the Lower City and find Felogyr’s Fireworks, which is all the way across to the north past the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. And once you’re finally in the Lower City, you should have a marker for the next step displayed on the map.

Once inside Felogyr’s Fireworks, speak to Avery Sonshal at the front desk and recite the merchant’s password to him. This will give you access to the next floor up, but the very top floor is still off-limits. And this is where the explosives are actually being made. Now, the good outcome of this quest is to destroy the operation and kill all the staff members inside. Doing this will resolve the quest and put a stop to their antics. But evil players can also choose to leave it alone if they’re planning on working with Lord Gortash.

If stopping the operation is what you have planned, then you best prepare for a tough fight. The best way to deal with this situation is by heading to the top floor and using either a firebolt or fire arrow to blow up the explosives. This will also cause every enemy in the store to aggro onto you so be careful. At least you’ll get a lot of experience for the trouble. The explosion should kill most of the enemies on the top floor though and will make your life much easier. And once each enemy has been killed, you’ll have finished Investigate the Suspicious Toys in Baldur’s Gate 3.
