Ingredients………

This Japanese Steakhouse dipping sauce is surprisingly easy to make. You only need 5 ingredients (and a few optional additions) and they’re all items you probably already have in your pantry.

  • onion – you can use red or yellow onion.
  • ginger – fresh ginger root is preferable and peeled.
  • lemon juice – the juice from about 2 lemons.
  • rice wine vinegar – but I have use apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar instead.
  • Tamari soy sauce – Use a gluten free soy sauce or regular soy sauce to your preference.

Expert Recipe Tips

  • Add more onion if you prefer a chunkier sauce.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, reduce the liquids a bit.
  • You can always decrease or increase the amount of fresh ginger you add to your taste.
  • Add a bit more lemon if you prefer more sharpness.
  • You can use a blender if you prefer.
  • If you want a smooth sauce then add to blender and blend to your desired consistency.
  • You don’t need to grate your ginger or onion first – the food processor will do this for you.

Delicious Ways To Change It Up

Here are some delicious ways to change up this easy ginger dipping sauce:

  • Add some heat – feel free to add red chili flakes for some heat.
  • Change the sweetener – use honey or brown sugar instead.
  • Skip the sweetness – if you prefer a much sharper sauce then simply skip the sweetener.
  • Add zing – with a little bit of lemon zest. It is easier to zest your lemon before you juice it.

Pro Tip: The flavors of this develop over time, so feel free to make it a day before serving.

Storage

This ginger dipping sauce is very versatile, easily adaptable, and can be used with any meal, any time of the day, all year long.

  • Store – Make ahead and store in a glass jar or other airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze – Place meal size portions in very handy Ziploc Freezer bags. But for longer storage, follow this nifty method: Portion the ginger sauce intoice cube trays. Once frozen, pop out the individual ice cubes of seasoning and then add them into a labeledZiploc bag. Store in your freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Note: a siliconice cube traywill make your life much easier.
  • Meal Prep – You can easily double or triple this recipe to make extra for other meals or freeze them for later use.

FAQs

Can I Use Ground Ginger Instead Of Fresh Ginger?

You certainly can. Fresh ginger, along with all the other fresh ingredients gives a better flavor. But also fresh ginger adds chunkiness to the sauce. However, if you prefer then please use the powdered version to your taste.
