The final Top247 for the 2023 recruiting crop rolled out Thursday and more than half of LSU’s class nailed down a spot. The Tigers had 13 of their 25 signees make the list, with two ranked among the top 26 in America and finishing as five-star prospects.

Zalance Heard continued his meteoric rise all the way up to No. 16 overall in America and No. 3 amongst offensive tackles. The big man from Neville joined Dashawn Womack, who came in at No. 26 overall and No. 3 at the EDGE position, as the highest ranked players in the class with five-star status.

The biggest riser was Ka'Morreun Pimpton, who jumped over 100 spots to No. 109 overall in the country, after an impressive showing at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio. He flipped from Vanderbilt to LSU on the first day of the Early Signing Period, giving the Tigers a big weapon from the tight end position.

“Of more than 90 players measured at All-America Bowl check-in, Pimpton claimed the No. 1 spot in the arm length race with a mammoth 36 1/2, the only player to hit the 36-inch mark,” said 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks. “The 6-foot-5 1/2, 222-pounder then impressed throughout the week's practices with his pass-catching ability in traffic and his red-zone feel. He possesses a ton of physical and developmental potential and already showed a willingness during AAB week to put his hand in the ground as an attached tight end and give it ago at the POA, encouraging context considering his full-time duties as a wideout the past couple of falls.”

Whit Weeks also had a good week in San Antonio that elevated him into the Top 100 at 97th overall.

“Whit Weeks was a bit of a revelation during All-America Bowl week,” said Brooks. “He showed excellent pursuit range as a run defender, but the athleticism fueling that territory-roaming ability clearly manifested in his in-space competency on passing downs. He's a decisive defender with short-area twitch and quick wits to match. Seems like a great modern linebacker who can stay on the field in all situations.”

It wasn’t all good news, however, as Shelton Sampson Jr. fell 56 spots and saw his rating drop from a 95 to a 94. A disappointing week at the Under Armour All-America practices contributed to his drop, although he noted he went in a little banged up.

“Sampson slid from a third-round to fourth-round projection based on what our staff saw during Under Armour All-America week,” explained Brooks. “He has a ton of upside, but the multiple days of additional live exposure reinforced the "leaves you wanting more" sense that has crept up repeatedly in the evolution of his evaluation.”

In all, LSU signees came out +100 in overall ranking notches with seven players moving up, five going the other way, and one staying put for a class ranked No. ? with 247Sports.
