What does active mean on waitlistcheck California? ›

An Active Status means you have been selected for the lottery/waiting list. An Inactive Status means you have NOT been selected for the lottery/waiting list. You will need to apply again when the waiting list reopens.

The wait time to receive a voucher is approximately 7 years. Important note: Applicants will receive a confirmation number when either applying, or being placed on the waiting list, depending on housing authority policy.

You may check the status of your application at www.waitlistcheck.com. You will receive a letter from THA when you reach the top of a waiting list and we are ready to schedule your eligibility review.

By December 1, 2022, all applicants will receive an email to inform them whether or not they were selected to be placed on the Section 8 Waiting List. Applicants may also check their status at hacla.hcvlist.org or by calling (877) 621-SEC8 (7328)/TTY 711 after this date.

How long does it take to get approved for rental assistance once I am selected from the waitlist? Once you have been pulled from the wait list, eligibility determination should take about 60 days. Please note that it is not possible to determine when your name will come to the top of the waiting list.
