BLUERAMA RESORT, KOH PHANGAN

Bluerama Resort is in the party island of Koh Phangan, and is a relatively new establishment. It’s quickly gaining traction among tourists in Koh Phangan for its breathtaking infinity pool.

Whether you’re staying at this intimate resort with just 13 bungalows, or only dining at its rooftop restaurant, you’ll be able to enjoy a 220 degree panoramic view of the Gulf of Thailand and spot out other small islands in the ocean while swimming in this gorgeous pool.

With the pool’s unique clear blue water, hanging around the rooftop pool area is perfect for relaxing during the daytime or witnessing the Koh Phangan sunset.

The resort is surrounded by a tropical forest and lots of granite rocks, which gives off a very authentic tropical jungle vibe.

For a million dollar view such as this, you would think that a stay here would be cost a fortune. Luckily, this wasn’t the case. Bluerama is an eco-friendly 3.5 star hotel, and one of its aims is to deliver great value for money. We stayed here for three nights at around 45USD per night – which was definitely worth the price.

The rooms are modest-sized, but clean and refreshing. We paid a little extra for a room with a sea view, which was a nice touch.

One thing to remember is that Bluerama is an Adults Only resort. This does not mean the resort is ‘naughty’ in any way (!), just that children are not permitted to stay (sorry to disappoint if you were looking to come with kids). Another thing is that the resort is situated on top of a steep hill, so make sure you know your way around a motorbike or scooter before attempting to go up.

Alternatively, find a driver with a car to get you up there. This can present itself to be an issue if you’re planning to go back and forth from the hotel to see other attractions, and haven’t arranged your own transport to get up the hill. You might find yourself hiking up everyday and tiring yourself out, so we would definitely recommend figuring this out before you stay. We admit - we hiked up the hill on a number of occasions because we couldn't ride a scooter. Although it was a scenic climb with nice views all around, it was very tiring.

THE JUNGLE CLUB, KOH SAMUI

The Jungle Club is already a well-established attraction in Koh Samui. Most visitors come here to dine at the Jungle Club restaurant, which offers a gorgeous panoramic view of the island. What some people don’t know, however, is that the Jungle Club is actually also a resort with an amazing infinity pool.

The infinity pool at the Jungle Club is a lot more intimate than most other infinity pools. It’s quite small, and is surrounded by lush greenery. The pool is beautiful, offering a majestic overview of Koh Samui and its neighbouring islets. Definitely an ideal place to lie down, relax and sip on a co*cktail.

The swimming pool is only accessible to hotel guests. When we stayed here, we paid around 60USD for one night. We’d say this is a very reasonable price to pay for the view that you get once you’re in the pool.

Make sure you time your stay so that you can maximize clear daylight when you’re in the infinity pool, as the views are especially beautiful when the day is nice and bright.

The rooms at the Jungle Club are simple, but offer everything you’d need for a short stay. It was one of the more spacious rooms we stayed in during our whole Thailand trip, and probably had the most comfortable beds. One thing to note is that because the resort is located in an elevated tropical rainforest, there are a lot of bugs crawling and flying around. Make sure to bring insect repellent.

Another thing to note about the resort is that some of the lower-priced rooms only contain a fan, but no air-conditioning. We found that this wasn’t an issue as the fan kept the room sufficiently cool, but if you’re looking for that extra chill, pay a few extra dollars and book a room that has an aircon.

137 PILLARS SUITES & RESIDENCES, BANGKOK

Out of all the different hotels and resorts we stayed at during our trip to Thailand, this is the one we splurged out on the most. After saving money staying at mainly affordable mid-range hotels, we decided to treat ourselves by staying at this stylish luxury 5-star skyscraper.

We understand that some of you wouldn’t find this ideal, but if you’re staying in a lot of different places in Thailand, you should try minimising costs in those other places before choosing one place to splurge on. Accommodation in Thailand is generally very cheap and you won’t have any problems finding a bargain at any time.

What we did was capitalise on staying at brand new hotels that offered special promo prices to its guests in hopes of increasing awareness about the hotel (Chiang Mai in particular had a lot of these, as well as Bangkok). In turn, this kept us within our budget to stay at the 137 Pillars Suites and Residences in Bangkok for our very last night in Thailand.

137 Pillars Suites and Residences is another new establishment built in early 2017. The 137 Pillars brand is already well known in Chiang Mai, but doesn’t quite have the same brand recognition in Thailand’s busy capital just yet.

The high-rise tower has two infinity pools - one on the 27th floor for all hotel guests, and one on the rooftop for suite guests only. The infinity pool on the rooftop is the one we spent the majority of our time in, simply because it is amazingly gorgeous!

The infinity pool on the rooftop features the brightest of blue waters, a dramatic view of the famous Bangkok skyline, a rooftop bar and lounge. The matte-textured tiles around the pool are a nice touch, and serves as a welcome contrast to the illuminating colour of the pool. We were so impressed with this infinity pool that we lounged around for the whole day.

During our stay, we were blessed to have blue skies adorning the Bangkok skyline - something truly rare considering the usual fog and pollution that covers the sky in Thailand’s capital city. If you happen to visit on a day with gloomy weather, come back in the nighttime when all the skyscrapers are lit up.

If you’re not choosing to stay in a suite, don’t worry. The pool on the 27th floor is still probably better than most infinity pools in Bangkok, and more or less offers the same views as the other pool. The only difference is, the pool water isn’t as brightly blue and the pool isn’t on the rooftop.

Having said that, the 27th floor has other cool areas such as a swanky bar and infinity jacuzzi! (I’m hoping that’s what you call a jacuzzi with a drop off view of the Bangkok skyline - and if it isn’t, then I’m coining it).

Because the hotel is brand new, you won’t find a bad room at the 137 Pillars Suites & Residences. Our apartment was clean, polished, well-furnished, comfortable and sleek. The hotel is equipped with a gym, a restaurant and other facilities. It also provides a free return shuttle to a local mall at various times during the day, which we utilised to full effect.
