Randolph County Emergency Service officials said multiple trees have fallen in the area.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Emergency officials say dozens of trees were down across Randolph County Monday night.
The force of a mature tree swung onto power lines and took them down with it.
People who live along East Naomi Street don't know if it was the sound of the tree falling into the street or thunder that interrupted their evening.
"We are out of power; we were fixing dinner in the kitchen and heard the loud boom and actually felt the house shake and the house it's a big house to shake," said Amanda Thompson, her daughter Ashley Thompson continued, "Whenever it happened, I went running to dad and was he was like the cat's jumped except one."
About 10 miles down the road, the storm disrupted another family fixing dinner.
Miranda Thompson said she watched through her front door as lightning hit a nearby utility pole twice.
"It was a little scary, super scary, having a four-year-old at home they were screaming and hollering, but say we were all fine, the wind was just the scariest part," said Thompson.
Randolph County emergency services officials said there are 60 to 80 downed trees in Randolph County Monday night after experiencing a tornado warning and a severe thunderstorm warning.
As of Monday night, Duke Energy's outage map showed 7,000 people in the county without power, it is not clear when the power will be restored.
A Randolph County official said Commonwealth Street in Randleman was blocked by a fire truck as Duke Energy had four trucks in the area.
A tornado watch was in effect for multiple counties across the Triad, including Randolph County, it expired at 9 p.m.
A tornado watch is not a WARNING, it means the weather conditions could develop into a tornado.
