The gravy was excellent. I used a cornstarch slurry instead of flour, thanks to previous reviewers. I just wished it made more gravy, so next time I'd use a whole can of broth plus the wine (or dry sherry, like I used this time). The patties were just ok. I even added extra onion and garlic, Worcestershire, and spices. If I can figure out how to make the gravy without the beef patties, that's the only part of this recipe I'm interested in repeating.

Absolutely loved this meal. It was simple and easy. I am 15 and to me this recipe was easy for a 8 year old to follow. Not only that but the taste was heavenly. I did have to make a few tweaks for example I did not have red wine. The sauce took a bit more flour, but was still not the thickness needed be. Other than this the meal is amazing.

This recipe was an option for me on the Cooking Light Diet Plan. I thought my family would like it since it is a basic recipe with beef. It was good, but I probably won't make it again. The patty was rather bland. The sauce was good and flavorful. The family said it was a good recipe, but I've tried soooooo many Cooking Light recipes that are better and they would rather have again.

Nothing terribly fancy here but great for a filling weeknight meal that satisfies the family. Really liked the sauce over garlic mashed potatoes. Will put on our regular rotation.

I have fond memories of Salisbury Steak from TV dinners as a child, so I made this recipe as written, with one minor change. I used bottled mushrooms, rather than fresh. Oh, don't make faces at me - the whole thing turned out delicious. And while cooking the mushrooms, I was able to scrape up all the bits of surloin that had stuck to the pan. A great, and easy, entree!

I usually don't change a recipe until I make it as written but I Read the other reviews and agreed that the meat probably needed more flavor which I knew my family would enjoy. Added a couple of shakes of Worcester sauce and chopped about 1/4 cup of green pepper to the meat. This was quite good the gravy was delicious.

Turned out amazing! Added some Worsie sauce and added sliced onions to the mushrooms when the gravy was started. Gravy was a little thin so I may add more corn starch next time but other than that it was great!

Made this for my husband and his friend, the gravy was delicious and smooth, I used a spoonful of cornstarch instead of flour and it made the gravy very silky and thick. Made with a side a mashed potatoes. Perfect meal for a cool, fall night! Will definitely be making again.

This is a good recipe, but I agree with other reviewers that the "steak" needs more flavor. I added about 2 Tbs. of Worcestershire to the mixture and it still needs something else, maybe more onion or garlic. The sauce was good. It was fairly quick and easy, so I would try again with some additions for more flavor.

The whole family loved this. I omitted the wine and used beef broth instead. Cremini mushrooms are WAY too expensive so I used button mushrooms and they were awesome. Served over mashed potatoes with side of fresh green beans. Perfect.

You can't go wrong with hamburger patties smothered in mushroom gravy. It was a really good recipe, though like other, I found my gravy didn't thicken like would've liked. So I added a cornstarch slurry and that was the ticket. I served it with steamed green beans with butter and dill and mashed potatoes and it was so.good.

I think I finally found the secret to making a really good Salisbury steak!! Thank you, Cooking Light!!!!! :-) Because of medication issues, I couldn't use the red wine called for, so I substituted what I had on hand - red wine vinegar with pomegranate juice. It was delicious and everyone, including my niece who can sometimes be a little picky, loved it. This recipe is mostly definitely a keeper. I do agree that that the gravy is just a bit too thin so I will increase the amount of flour the next time I make this.

This recipe is definitely a keeper. I used regular mushrooms and sliced them. Other than than, I used the recipe as given and it was wonderful. As an earlier reviewer noted, it didn't thicken so I added 1 Tbsp. cornstarch stirred into an equal amount of water and it was fine. The gravy had a great flavor, and there was enough to serve over the steaks and potatoes.

Just came across this recipe and made it last night. It was quick and delicious. I agree with other reviewers and will add something more to the burger next time around, probably Worcestershire. I've made this a couple times now. Works great as a fast weekday dinner - a huge hit every time I've made it, and a good use for some cheap red wine you're looking to use up. For a super-fast meal, serve with instant potatoes, rolls, and some microwaved peas/corn. Savory and filling - doesn't taste 'light' at all! :)

The gravy was yummy, even though it never really thickened--so I added corn starch (1:1 ratio of cornstarch to water, mix it in a container and then add it to the mushroom sauce). First time I made this I used ground chuck. Don't do that; I made it today (11/22/11) with ground sirloin, and it was appreciably better, so I just added a star. I'd use the gravy for any other cut of beef--it's that good. I used baby bellas and white button mushrooms, I served this with mashed potatoes so we could mix the gravy into the potatoes. This is a good, solid recipe, kind of comfort food for us. Definitely recommend.

This was FANTASTIC!!!!! No leftovers!!! & the gravy, there was plenty & could have drank it! I did not use the red wine or the red wine vinegar & used regular sliced mushrooms. I forgot to mix the flour & beef broth (had already poured the broth in) so I just tossed the flour in & stirred & it was fine. As with all recipes, you need to add your own seasoning a bit to the meat to give it some flavor & I also added worcestershire (I'm a southern girl). DELICIOUS!!! Have shared this receipe with all of my friends & family!

I followed other reviewers suggestions and added more onion and garlic to the ground sirloin, plus I used plain white mushrooms, not cremini. Aside from that I/we wouldn't change a thing in the original recipe. There's plenty of sauce, even with potatoes. The entire recipe is not real difficult nor is it time consuming. I served the salisbury steaks with haricots vert and fingerling potatoes...yummy. And we'll definitely be doing this one again. Very reliable, very tasty. Good solid weeknight family meal!

Glad I read the reviews before I made this dish. The cook who said to add more onion and a few drops of both hot sauce & worcestershire, and replace the pepper with Montral Steak Seasoning was spot on. this dish was fab. My husband said it was one of those dishes you could eat too much of, his ultimate compliment. I made the menu as printed, although I only added chives to the potatoes. I also assumed you saute the mushroom in the beef drippings, which I think added the depth of flavor needed here. I used Zynthesis Old Vines Zinfandel Lodi '09 in the dish & we drank the rest with dinner. Great weeknight meal, real comfort food, will surely make again.

The flavor of this meal was delicious but it took much longer than expected to make. I used venison in place of sirloin and should have just popped it in the oven after searing to bring to 165 degrees while I finished making the sauce, but instead I followed the recipe and ended up having to stick the entire pan in the oven to bring the meat to temp and all of the sauce evaporated. I served this with the recommended mashed potatoes and peas both also very good. I would make this again but with changes to the cooking technique.

Loved this. The gravy was one of my favorite parts. I, too, made it with all the suggested accompaniments and loved the potatoes and peas. The potatoes were great to soak up the delicious sauce. Great place for me to start!! Added bell peppers & sauteed peppers, onion, & garlic before mixing w/ meat. Also, had to add worcestershire sauce. Whole recipe needed more salt & pepper. Left out vinegar and added some thyme to the gravy then doubled the whole thing and made enough for 2 nights and it was fabulous. Also, throw in some whole garlic cloves to your potatoes while they are boiling....yummy!!!

I agree with another reviewer that the ground sirloin could have benefitted from some additional onion or other flavors. All in all, this was a tasty and satisfying dish that did not take too long to make. I used a lower-quality Merlot in the dish, and it left an ever-so-slight aftertaste that was mildly unpleasant once the meal was done. I would suggest using a higher quality wine (a tip that is pretty much common sense though!), or using beef broth in place of the wine, as suggested as an alternative by the recipe. I also made the two suggested sides, Herbed Mashed Potatoes and Buttered Peas and they were delicious accompaniments
