Road to Omaha: Defending champions LSU lose to No. 4 North Carolina (2024)

  • ESPN

Jun 1, 2024, 10:39 PM ET

The road to Omaha has officially begun. A noisy slate of games on Friday was followed by a quieter session on Saturday afternoon.

An exception was No. 16 East Carolina's rollercoaster win over Wake Forest. The Pirates, leading by four in the top of the ninth, made five pitching changes while allowing the Demon Deacons to score five runs and take the lead. But in the bottom of the inning, knowing they'd be in trouble without the pitchers to go deep into extras, East Carolina responded with three runs and ended the game on a walk-off single by outfielder Luke Nowak.

Defending champion LSU was taken down by No. 4 North Carolina in a 6-2 loss Saturday. The Tar Heels rode two home runs from outfielder Vance Honeycutt. The Tigers play Wofford Sunday in an elimination game.

We broke down each regional and provide you with schedule updates, scores and how to watch the NCAA tournament.
