Pretty good and easy to make - I grilled the pork. DD wasn't a big fan and thought the meat was bland. I served it with mashed potatoes. *************Update: Ok - I made it again and now it is 4 stars. It helps to use fresh dried sage. :-)

Just made this tonight because I wanted something quick and it came out amazing. I didn't do it exactly to the letter because I just used what I had on hand, but it was great. Changes: -No sage. Used half oregano and half parlsey instead. -No chops. Used pork rib meat cut into 1 inch sections. -Used extra virgin olive oil instead of vegetable oil. -No lemon juice. Omitted completely. -Only had 1 apple on hand so that is what I used. Did not peel the apple. I will definitely be using this recipe again!

This was excellent...and pretty quick too. I would second another review and make more of the sauce for the apples and try to put it over the pork, but it was very good!

Delicious, easy. Will do again. Used a gala apple, but I think the Granny Smith would hold up better to frying.

Such a quick and easy weeknight recipe, especially if you peel and slice the apples ahead of time! I varied the spices in the rub on the pork chop and used rosemary and thyme with the salt and pepper, which was really good, too! Instead of the pasta, I served it with cauliflower "mashed potatoes" with sour cream, chives, and parmesan cheese -- a nice way to sneak in vegetables! This recipe is a repeater in our house!

I did not use Granny Smiths, but instead Fugis. I think Granny Smiths would add some more complexity, but a good recipe all around. Paired it with a sour cream and chive mashed potatoes. Quick and easy to make.

Delicious. I took the other reviewers' advice and increased the time for browning the pork chops, and for browning the apples, and everything came out great. My husband loved it. Will definitely save the recipe in my box and make it again.

This was a solid recipe. I wouldn't rave about it though. I used the Granny Smith apples, so it was slightly tart. If I make again, I will try the Braeburn apples. Roasted sweet potatoes and broccolie made great sides.

I've been making a similar dish for 20+ years but never added the sage until now. I did follow my own cooking steps, which is to sear the chops in a skillet then transfer them to a baking dish and cover with the sliced apples, add 1/2 cup of apple juice or cider and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar. Cover the baking dish - glass lid or foil, either one - and bake for 30-40 minutes until the pork chops are done. Depending on the chops, sometimes they'll literally fall off the bone. This main dish cooks in the oven while the sides finish on top. We seemed always to lean towards fresh green beans and real mashed potatoes. Very easy, very good, and such a pity that none of my three kids cares for it. Never could figure that out; they're not fussy eaters and like most everything else I do...

Really love this recipe. Made it for the 2nd time last night. I'm not often a fan of cooking pork chops in a pan (end up going back to shake-n-bake time and time again), but for some reason this recipe has changed my mind. So flavorful! Also served with baked sweet potato which complimented the flavors nicely.

this recipe was very easy to follow and to put together, and delicious. i made 6 1/4 inch thick chops instead of 4 of the 1/2 inch thick 4 oz chops and it turned out really well. i also made this with Braeburn apples because i really don't like granny smith, and it wasn't too sweet. i served with homemade mashed potatoes and a side salad. this would be great also with a side of green beans almondine.

The pork took longer than 3 minutes on each side (after 6 minutes it was still pink around the edges), and the apples took about 10 minutes to get tender not 5 minutes. Overall the food was great and my family really liked it. We will definately cook again keeping a note that the cook times should be doubled.

My husband and I love this one. I did not have plain sage so used poultry seasoning. I used thin spaghetti noodles with zucchini and diced tomatoes for the side dish. Tossed with low cal dressing. Hubby came in and had to taste pork while I was doing the apples, he said he smelled so good. I am doing this again now. Great.

FAQs

What is the secret to moist pork chops? ›

For perfectly juicy pork chops (preferably bone-in) you must brine them for at least 1 to 2 hours and pick chops that are at least 1/2 to 1 inch thick. The success of this dish is the brine that will keep the chops moist.

Which cooking method is best for loin chops? ›

Common methods for cooking a pork chop include grilling and baking, both of which can work well, but we believe they are best pan-roasted over high heat or barbecued. Choose a bone-in chop wherever possible – the bone toils to prevent the chop from drying out and infuses the meat with a greater depth of flavour.

Is it better to bake or fry pork loin chops? ›

While there are a number of ways to cook pork chops for dinner, baking is arguably the easiest path to perfection. The hands-off cooking method cooks pork chops gently and evenly without the need for extra fat, resulting in juicy, healthier pork chops that pair well with practically any side dish.

Do you sear pork chops before or after baking? ›

Seasoning Substitutions: We prefer the flavor of salt and pepper on oven-baked pork chops but you can use any seasoning you like. Try adding a little garlic powder or onion salt for even more flavor. Sear the Chops First: The real key for irresistible oven-baked pork chops is searing them in a skillet first.

What liquid should I cook pork in? ›

Apple cider vinegar: Adds a little tanginess and helps to tenderize the pork. Without it, the pork tastes flat. Adding the vinegar wakes everything up. Fish sauce or Worcestershire: Seasons our cooking liquid and adds a nice burts of umami, which makes the pulled pork even more delicious.

How do I cook pork chops so they don't dry out? ›

High-heat frying sears them to a golden brown; and a moderately hot oven (400 degrees F) bakes the pork chops gently enough to keep them from drying out. This "sear-roasting" method is a great way to cook pork chops in the oven: Fry one side to golden brown, then flip, and place the chops directly in the oven.

Should I cook pork chops in butter or oil? ›

Butter, with its luxurious richness and distinctive nutty flavor, is a classic choice for frying pork chops, whether they are breaded or not. As the butter melts and sputters in the pan, it imparts a depth of flavor to the dish.

What's the difference between pork loin and pork loin chops? ›

It is most likely much easier than you may think! What Is The Difference Between Pork Loin and Pork Chops? Center cut pork chops include the same rib bone and the same loin meat as a pork loin. However, on the other side of the bone is another piece of meat that is a richer, darker piece of tenderloin.

How to cook loin chops so they are tender? ›

First, we sear one side of the chops until browned, flip them, turn the heat to low, and cover the skillet with a lid. The second side will slowly turn golden brown, and since we added the lid, the heat from the pan will gently cook the middle. By gently cooking the chops this way, they stay juicy and become tender.

Should I cover my pork chops in the oven? ›

These tender, juicy, and flavorful oven-baked pork chops can be customized with your favorite spices and seasonings. Use our seasoning suggestions or substitute with your favorite spice blends. We ask you to cover the pork with foil or parchment during baking.

Is it better to bake pork chops at 350 or 400? ›

If you pick boneless just make sure you watch the pork chops so they don't overcook. I find that boneless pork chops can cook quicker and become dry easier. I suggest you cook them around the 375 degree temperature or even 400 for a crispier skin.

Why do you rinse pork chops before cooking? ›

While washing meat and poultry to remove dirt, slime, fat or blood may have been appropriate decades ago when many slaughtered and prepared their own food, the modern food safety system doesn't require it.

How long should pork chop in the oven? ›

How Long to Bake Pork Chops at 400 Degrees F. At 400 degrees F you can count on 7 to 8 minutes for each 1/2 inch of thickness your pork chops are. So, 3/4-inch-thick chops will take 10 to 12 minutes, 1-inch-thick cooks in 15 to 16 minutes, and so on.

Do pork chops get more tender the longer you cook them? ›

Because pork chops are such a lean cut, they are relatively quick-cooking and prone to overcooking. When they're cooked for even a few minutes too long, whether it's in the oven or on the stovetop or grill, they're quick to dry out, and — you guessed it — become tough, chewy, and less than appealing.

How do you make pork soft and tender? ›

Does soaking pork chops in salt water make them tender? ›

A brine is essentially just salt and water. It helps prevent moisture loss during cooking, and the salt also helps tenderize the meat from the inside out. If you want an extra juicy piece of pork, brine it before cooking. You can make an effective brine just with salt and water, but additional seasonings do help.
