How do I get a Missouri crash report? ›

To obtain an official crash report copy, or for information about a specific crash, you must contact your local Highway Patrol troop headquarters or the Patrol's Traffic Division at (573) 526-6113. Please allow at least ten working days from the date of the crash before requesting the official report.

The accident caused property damage costing more than $500, or someone was injured or killed.

Distracted driving.

This is the number one cause of collisions in both Kansas and Missouri. Distracted driving can involve anything from texting and talking on the phone to eating and grooming.

The Patrol's primary responsibility remains enforcing traffic laws and promoting safety on Missouri's approximately 33,000 miles of state-maintained highways. In addition, the Missouri's governors and legislatures have tasked the Patrol with additional law enforcement duties.

Missouri is an at-fault state for car accidents. Missouri requires its residents to carry a minimum amount of liability coverage in their auto policies. Liability coverage should pay your medical expenses and related damages if you are injured in an accident that was caused by another driver.

Under Missouri law, an accident shall be reported within 30 days if any owner/operator of an involved vehicle is uninsured and one of the following circ*mstances are met: anybody is injured. anybody is killed.

Missouri uses a pure comparative negligence system for car accidents. In this system, each party is assigned a percentage of fault based on their contribution to the accident. Their share of fault determines how much compensation they can recover from a claim or lawsuit.

Collisions. Traffic collisions must be immediately reported to the police if it results in death, injury or property damage of $5,000 or more. A collision report is completed and stored in a collision database.

Requests for copies of incident reports may be made in person or by mail. The Information Request Form must be completed for each report you are requesting. The online PDF version of the form may be printed and completed by hand or you can obtain the form at police headquarters.
