The holiday season is here, and what better way to celebrate than with a delicious sweet treat? Introducing the 4 ingredient layered mint chocolate fudge. It’s an easy fudge recipe that combines the rich taste of chocolate with the refreshing flavor of mint. This isn’t just any christmas fudge recipe; it’s special because of the layered design, giving each bite a unique taste. If you’re looking to impress with a festive dessert, this is the one to try. It’s probably no surprise to most of you that I really love the combination of chocolate and peppermint. Whether it’s ice cream, hot cocoa, peppermint bark, peppermint blossom cookies or more, I just love it. It’s my favorite part of holiday eating baking. This layered chocolate peppermint fudge recipe came to me while I was making my pretzel fudge this year. I had found those green peppermint baking chips in the baking aisle and had about 5 bags of them sitting in my pantry, just waiting to be used. To some of you 5 bags of peppermint baking chips may seem excessive, but trust me, you want to have that on hand when inspiration strikes.
What I Love About This Christmas Fudge
- Easy: This is a simple fudge recipe. Some fudge recipes are fancy and take a lot of time or ingredients but this is easy to whip up in a few minutes! It has simple ingredients and makes the perfect last minute holiday treat.
- Gluten Free: This recipe is naturally gluten free, which is great for sharing with friends and neighbors. As always, check your particular ingredients to make sure they’re safe if you’re serving this to someone who doesn’t eat gluten.
- Pretty: This is not only a tasty treat but it’s a pretty treat that’s perfect for the Christmas season. As far as homemade Christmas fudge goes, it doesn’t get much cuter!
- Layers: This fudge is different from other chocolate peppermint fudge recipes because it has layers! There’s a layer of classic chocolate fudge and a layer or white chocolate fudge (with a peppermint flavor). Plus the layer of peppermint crunch on top! I do love a good chocolate mint fudge!
Why Do We Love Mint at Christmas?
Ever noticed how mint flavors pop up everywhere during Christmas time? It’s not just random. The crisp taste of peppermint candies and iconic candy canes are a big part of our holiday traditions. Mint’s vibrant green and sometimes red stripes fit perfectly with Christmas colors. Plus, its cool taste contrasts the season’s cozy, warm moments.

- 3 cups dark chocolate baking chips
- 3 cups peppermint baking chips
- 2 candy canes, crushed
- 2 – 14 oz cans Sweetened Condensed Milk
Substitutions
White Peppermint Baking Chips: If your peppermint baking chips aren’t green, you can add a few drops of green food coloring to them after they’re melted to achieve your desired color.
White Chocolate Baking Chips: If you don’t have access to peppermint baking chips, use white chocolate chips. Once your chips are melted according to the instructions, add ¼ teaspoon of peppermint extract to the white chocolate. Do not add too much or your fudge will taste too minty.
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: If you prefer, substitute your favorite chocolate chips for the dark chocolate chips.
Peppermint Candies: If you can’t find candy canes, you can crush up peppermint candies to sprinkle on the top.
Festive Sprinkles: No candy canes? Just use festive sprinkles on top of your mint chocolate fudge. It won’t have that peppermint crunch but it will still be a festive fudge that will satisfy your sweet tooth.
Instructions
- Prepare a 9×13 baking dish by lining with foil or parchment paper. This will enable you to remove it from the pan much easier.
- In a heavy bottomed pan or double boiler over medium low, melt the chocolate and one can of Sweetened Condensed Milk until mixed. I recommend using a wooden spoon or silicone spatula. Pour into the baking dish. Chill for 5 minutes while preparing the peppermint layer.
- In a heavy bottomed pan or double boiler over medium-low heat, melt the peppermint baking chips and the other can of Sweetened Condensed Milk. Pour into the baking dish on top of chocolate layer.Use your rubber spatula to spread evenly.
- Sprinkle candy canes on top.
- Cover and place into the freezer for 2-3 hours to set. I recommend removing after about 45 minutes to cut then put back into the freezer. Fudge can be very difficult to cut when fully frozen.

After a couple of minutes, you’ll notice a smooth, glossy finish to your melted chocolate – the ideal consistency for homemade fudge. But remember, all microwaves vary, so keep a close eye on your bowl.

This recipe is super simple. It takes about 10 minutes to make then a couple hours being chilled. I made mine and then delivered to neighbors the same day. Don’t worry, I saved a bunch for us too. Remember, I did buy FIVE bags of the green. We had plenty left over to eat ourselves. We’ll be munching on it for weeks to come. That’s what is so great about fudge. Just keep it in portions in the freezer and take out when you’re ready!
