Antoine d’Agata METHODA residency of 100 days.23 September - 31 December 2024.Antoine d’Agata’s studio is the world. The photographer lives a non-stop life, always on the move between personal projects and commissions for newspapers that take him to distant regions and conflict zones. The “Method” project proposes a radical change in his practice. Here, he experiments with a hybrid approach that he calls “work-praxis” , which draws on an attempt at completion that is never finished but endlessly recommences. This artist residency in the Museum gives Antoine d’Agata the opportunity to turn Room 21bis into a studio for 100 days. He gives himself the time to work on his vast photographic archives, collections of objects, books and films. In this way, he takes a look at his trajectory and tries to draw some sort of conclusion in the form of a monumental installation, l’Atelier-monde [The World-Studio) and his 256 notebooks. This space contrasts the traveller’s isolation with a meeting with the public, which can observe an artist in the process of completing his work and searching for a method to organise the narrative flow. The residency is also an opportunity for exchanging with thirteen guests on d’Agata’s preferred themes - history cruelty, fragility. absence and death.@antoinedagata @magnumphotos #magnumphotos

😱 The Scream at The Munch Museum 😱Did you know there are several different versions of Edvard Munch’s “The Scream”?The two painted versions are on display at @munchmuseet.no and in the National Museum of Norway. The Scream (1910?), exhibited at MUNCH, has been the centre of extensive debate over the years as to when it was actually painted. Different arguments suggest that it was painted in 1906, 1910 or between 1915-18.In an attempt to solve this mystery once and for all, MUNCH collaborated with researchers from the University of Antwerp and HIROX Europe. The researchers performed detailed investigations of pigments and paint layers of the painting using high-tech equipment (against other artworks with confirmed dating) in an attempt to more accurately date this work. 🔬 Considering the large amount of collected data, solving this mystery will take several months, but we’ll let you know when they find out. In the meantime, The Scream (1910?) is back on display at the @munchmuseet.no 😱 🖼️

@mariemullerpriqueler - L'EXPOSITION Over the past year, I have been making a body of work that attempts to detach sexuality from politics and capitalism. This idealistic effort characterizes the spiritual and ephemeral nature of my work and its resistance to categorization.I'm challenging definitions of photography, self-portraiture, modelling, and writing, and I am fighting to cast off established classifications by refusing to fit anywhere. Using my own body as my main medium, I am exploring the inner workings of the female psyche, female sensuality, and female intimacy. My work attempts to evade 'narcissistic' attention to my self image, pursuing instead a more ambivalently dialogical relationship to such along to the metaphysical dimensions of my body.https://urlz.fr/ovCz

In this week's #wizreadswednesdays, we are deep diving into renaissance paintings. Did you know that many paintings from that period had hidden self portraits or were multisided. The Metropolitan Museum is showcasing such works, prompting the author of this moderate difficulty article to explore the phenomenon. Read the article and answer this medium difficulty question.https://lnkd.in/gBN4PakSWhich of the following best describes the primary purpose of the article?A. to induce readers to buy tickets to the Met exhibitionB. to argue that the paintings with such covers are more valuable than paintings withoutC. to illustrate the tradition of multisided portraiture with examplesD. to compare renaissance portraits with modern-day portraitsE. to recommend portraits that fit the Met's requirements and should be included in the exhibition#gmat #gmatprep #gmatpreparation #gmatverbal #gmatrc #wizako #wizreads #wizreadswednesdays #readingcomprehension #mainidea

And that’s number 25! Over the past year, we have been illustrating 25 essential skills for curators, giving a glimpse of the day-to-day life of art museum curators. This list of 25 skills is neither complete, nor definitive. Research commissioned by CODART in 2023 has shown that the job of curator has changed a lot over the past decennia. This will undoubtedly continue in the years to come: some of the 25 skills presented in this series may become irrelevant or obsolete, while new skills we can’t even think of now will emerge. In the 25th and final video in the series, Friso Lammertse and Tamar van Riessen (respectively Curator and Junior Curator of 17th-Century Dutch Painting, Rijksmuseum) discuss what skills the curator of the future will need. What skills do you think will become essential in the future? Let us know in the comments!See codart.nl/25 for the entire video series.

🎨 MY ARTWORK IS SIGNED BUT WITHOUT A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY!WHAT CAN I DO? 😱The activity of verifying authenticity is part of the basic tasks carried out by archives and foundations.Normally, these institutions are run by the artist's family members and art experts. To facilitate the verification activity, it is always useful to send these institutions not only a photo of the work, but also documents, research and evidence. If you are not able to do all this, contact an experienced HISTORIAN OF ART who will help you in this delicate task.WARNING: DO-IT-YOURSELF IS A GUARANTEE OF FAILURE!!!Remember that a work with a certificate of authenticity has an important economic and artistic value.#artmarket #artinvestment #artexpert

Collection management is a fundamental aspect of the care and preservation of art collections, whether they are owned by museums, galleries or private collectors. Let's delve into the practical side of art collection management:Record keeping and documentation:Catalogue: Each artwork in the collection must have a detailed record. This includes information about its location, acquisition history, condition, and any conservation or restoration efforts.Digitization: Collection management software allows institutions to digitize records, making it easier to search for specific objects and update information as needed. Curators, conservators, archivists, researchers, and administrators rely on these records to maintain the entire collection.Conservation and restoration:Monitoring: Collection management software facilitates preservation and restoration efforts. This ensures that artworks are properly cared for, preventing damage and deterioration.Retaining value: Proper conservation preserves the value of a work of art over time. Whether it's preventing short-term wear and tear or ensuring long-term stability, professionals play a critical role in art conservation.#artcollectionmanagement #artcollection #collectart #collectors

Is there a wrong way to create connections between images? YES! 😉 And here's a good example. I love the formal comparisons between these two images, but their meanings and significance couldn't be more different. What works formally in the juxtaposition--the shadows, the blue and green tones, and the beautifully toned wood--can't negate the fact that they are images doing different work and made in contexts that don't align. The artwork on the left is part of the installation of the Lebanese Pavilion at the Venice Biennial by multimedia artist Mounira Al Solh, while the snapshot on the right is a tourist photo (by me) of a small harbor in France. I believe that everyone has a curatorial perspective and voice, but my work is all about owning your aesthetic choices and creating authority through the deeper understandings of artworks and images and their larger context in space and time. (Of course, I can't help but think that if we really tried we could connect Al Solh's re-telling of the ancient Phoenician myth of the Abduction of Europa with small boats in the Mediterranean--but again, that's not the point of the second image!).
