Garnish - Brandied Cherry

One tip we learned during the class is to never use old ice. Make sure if you are mixing a drink that takes ice you have ice for the shaker and ice for the glass. That way the glass is kept cold and the ice has not already started to melt from the shaking.

If you are visiting Las Vegas and want to learn more about the craft of mixing great co*cktails check with the Monte Carlo Resort Mlife Concierge to see if Mixologist Phillip Dow is teaching classes while you are there.

Vegas is one of those places I want to visit for the sights and shows and food, not gambling, so this would be a perfect activity for me! I'm not the best home mixologist - I make do, and my hubby almost graduated bartending school back in college, so he helps me fix my mistakes. I'd love to see how the pros do it. And you're right - that drink is so pretty! Must look in to that creme de violette!!

The Aviation co*cktail sounds delicious! I really like the name, it's quite luxurious I think. I also like that it has some fresh lemon in it for that citrusy zing. I now want to do a mixology class too, it sounds like so much fun! 🙂

I have never heard of an aviation co*cktail before. I've also never heard of maraschino liqueur before. In other words, I have to try this drink! If not sooner, I'll try one the next time that in Las Vegas, which will probably be this spring.

That's a pretty great class to take with a few friends. I never heard that about not using old ice before, I'll have to remember that tip for future reference. Thanks for the recipe, sounds refreshing.

This looks like lots of fun. I would much rather take a class like this in Vegas over gambling that money away any day. It's so neat to see all of the combos that people come up with!

Wow - Tammilee - I would like to try and make that and taste it. It is lovely and delicate looking. And, going to a 'MIXOLOGIST TRAINING & TASTING' in Las Vegas - I didn't know anything about that. We drive through Vegas, but haven't stayed in a long while - another reason to check it out! Thank you for sharing the recipe 🙂

How cool. I watch Bar rescue and he's always talking about their mixologist and it's actually a thing. I find it neat that people take the time to learn it. It's kind of like an art.

That sounds like a really interesting class! My brother was a bartender before he became a lawyer. He was really good at it (he went to school first) and managed a bar in Florida. I think he misses it. He tells us about all the different co*cktails and ingredients when he's visiting and mixing up drinks.

I have not had a good co*cktail in ages and I wouldn't mind attending a class to learn how to mix my own booze lol. Thanks for sharing this.

Whoa I too love the colours in that icy blue aviation co*cktail. Would it be kind of a nice cherry taste to it, given the fact it has maraschino liqueur? Or is that not cherry flavoured at all? Clearly, I don't know my booze all that well.

Good tip on never using "old ice" - never would have thought that could contribute to the drink. Makes sense though, with the freezer smells, etc.
