There are a lot of fun flavor ideas in here. Thanks!

I do want to say that I don’t think a fruit smoothie needs any sugar added; the fruit provides enough sweetness on its own. If you use plain natural yogurt as well, you’ve got a creamy, sweet-tart treat with no added sugar– much healthier.

Also, if you use frozen fruit you needn’t bother with ice. :)

You can really add as little or as much as you want depending on the taste you are going for or what you happen to have on hand. You can add like one banana 4 strawberries, or a 1/2 of cup of blueberries, 1-2 peaches. It really doesn’t matter to much.

i make these for hubby .. its a nice treat that wont bother his stomach too much ..
i put in a cup of greens (spinach or kale or collards or mustard/turnip greens).. some fruit (fresh or frozen berries) .. 1 celery stalk .. some water .. blend it up well .. and serve ..
he doesnt like his too sweet so i usually add more greens to it .. but roughly mainly 1 cup or so .. (a handful .. but since i have small hands i figure a good cup full) ..
    thanks for posting htis ..

I would not suggest ever putting pineapple, or any citrus fruit in milk for a smoothie. It makes a VERY bitter flavor within 5 minutes and truly makes a smoothie unpalatable.

I think you are talking about fresh pineapple and we usually use canned and that is what we mean. Fresh pineapples here are very expensive and they usually are nasty. Often before we can get them to ripen they start spoiling so we have to use mostly canned.

I would first add any cereal and frappe it to dust before making the smoothie unless you like lumps. I’m anti lumpist.

And I try to add bitter greens collards, kale, mustard tops, etc because they are so good for you. You can cover their taste up with fruit.

I’d try it without the sugar and try to only sweeten with fruit.

I wonder what is the validity of Fruit Smoothies. And what is the best storage thereof.

You know I have wondered that myself Vera. I question what is the difference of peeling a banana and just eating it along with a handful of strawberries especially since I don’t use a dishwasher so I hate washing a blender each time. One nice thing about fruit there is no dirty pan or bowl to clean up when you eat them. They are also very portable. I also wonder how many people are gaining more weight or not losing the weight they need to because they are downing smoothies with yogurt, milk, lots of fruit – all of which have many calories even low fat.
No to me a smoothie is a dessert or a treat like a fruit compote.Something fun to drink on a hot day.
As far as the storage goes it depends on what you are using. If it is fresh fruit and veggies then store those as you normally would. You can also mix things like berries and part of the ingredients together in plastic containers or bags and pull one out when you need one, mixing with what ever else you need too.
