One of the biggest draws with the Forza Horizon games is their innovative multiplayer system. Forza Horizon 5 is no different and has a lot to offer for players who enjoy interacting with and competing against other players. There is a lot to unpack for those who just started enjoying the game, and this guide is here to give you the rundown of Forza Horizon 5’s extensive multiplayer features.
Playing in Forza Horizon 5's Horizon Life
Forza Horizon 5, much like its prequel, will throw you into Horizon Life, an online map where you and dozens of other players can freely drive around the map. This doesn’t mean that you are forced to compete in co-op events though, as each event gives you the option of playing solo or with other players. You don’t need to worry about crashes either; players that aren’t part of your convoy can be passed through. If you do come across someone you want to drive around with, then there are quite a few ways to spend your time.
Forza Horizon 5 Convoys
Convoys are back and should be very familiar to Horizon veterans. Simply drive up to a player you want to start a convoy with, and when the option pops up to invite them, press it. You can join up with other players to drive around the map together and easily compete in the game’s various events. You can leave a convoy at any time, and the game will still inquire with you before entering you into a race with the rest of the group.
If you are looking to join a convoy, then you can use the game’s search feature to find one. Just choose from the activity list to find players who are interested in the same type of activities that you are.
Challenging Players to Races in Forza Horizon 5
When driving around in Horizon Live, you can also choose to race players. To do this, simply drive up to their car until an option to interact with them pops up; from here, you can challenge them to a race. If the other player agrees, then you simply need to set a course and race to the finish. This can get a bit chaotic as some players will cut through fields to get to the finish line quicker instead of following the road.
New Feature - Forza Horizon 5 Gift Drops
A new feature in Forza Horizon 5 is gift drops. These are essentially barn finds that you send to other players at random. You can do this by going into your menu and clicking the gift drop option. You will then be asked to select which of your cars you want to send and what type of player you want to send it to. You can choose between new players, hall of fame players, community helpers, or just send the car randomly. At the end, you will also have the option to include a note and your Gamertag if you wish.
You can have a gift drop randomly appear at any time in your world. When they do, the game will notify you, and they will appear in one of the game’s barn locations. Going to the marked barn will play a short cutscene and add the car to your garage.
The Horizon Super 7 and the Eliminator
The Horizon Super 7 is essentially a way to make and participate in player-made events. These can be left all over the map and are a way for players to introduce unique challenges into the game.
The Eliminator is a bit different as it is an online battle royale mode. This mode comes complete with car drops for you to race to and the ability to challenge other players to races to be the last one left standing.
How to Play Offline in Forza Horizon 5
If you don’t want to play in Horizon Live, then you can simply exit the mode. To do so, go to the online section of the menu and select solo. This will automatically place you in an offline map. Doing this will activate the drivatars, but they are easily distinguishable from real drivers.
Forza Horizon 5 Club Basics
Another big online feature is the ability to join up with clubs. Clubs are more permanent than convoys and are made by players. There are several types of clubs available. Some will solely focus on creating vinyls to decorate their cars with, while others will be built around competitive racing. It’s a great way to organize players for team events or just find other car fanatics to chat with while you play the game.
Forza Horizon 5 Auction House - How to Use It
One of the most interesting and chaotic parts of the Forza multiplayer universe is the Auction House. This is where you can sell off duplicate cars or ones that you just simply don’t want in your collection. Other players are doing the same, and you can search for car models that you aren’t having any luck acquiring in the game.
You can set the auction starting price of your car and how many credits it will take for someone to buy it outright. You can also control how many hours your vehicle is being auctioned for. The system will take a small portion of the credits, but it’s a great way to earn some extra money.
If you plan to try to buy a car, then you will want to set auction alerts and keep a close offer on the bids. Rarer cars always have a bullseye on them, and it’s not uncommon for players to all try to snipe the car at the last minute. Be sure you are strategically bidding on the car, especially in the auctions last few minutes, without coming too close to the buy it now price.
