Escape to the Chateau's Dick and Angel to return on Channel 4 following controversy (2024)

Dick and Angel Strawbridge are poised to make a comeback on Channel 4, following their leaked tirade with a show producer.

The television duo have been inviting viewers into their home for years as they refurbished a rundown French chateau, featuring in the Channel 4 series Escape to the Chateau for nine seasons since 2015, along with spin-off shows.

Following a review last year, Channel 4 revealed that they had chosen to sever ties with Dick and Angel after years of collaboration on the highly successful programme, reports the Mirror.

This decision was made amidst allegations of 'bullying' producers during filming, however, Dick and Angel maintained that there are 'two sides to every story'.

A leaked audio clip allegedly features Angel launching a 'foul-mouthed rant' at a producer.

Despite this, reports suggest that the pair will return to Channel 4 with a new series.

They will feature in Dick and Angel's Secret France, a show that takes them off the beaten path in France, exploring areas few tourists visit. Reports indicate that the couple's show is set to air on Sunday, June 2 at 8pm.

"Dick and Angel had filmed this series before the damning recording of Angel was leaked last year," an insider told The Sun.

"Despite severing ties with the Strawbridges, it was always the plan for executives to broadcast the show at a later date. Channel 4 have scaled back on promoting the series and haven't altered their stance on working with Dick and Angel in the future following the completion of their internal review."

A spokesperson for Dick and Angel Stratton-Carr spoke to The Mirror about the couple's upcoming show on Channel 4, saying: "From my perspective, Dick and Angel are delighted that the show will broadcast on Channel 4 next Sunday, 2nd June, and we have been working alongside the Channel 4 press team.

"Dick and Angel announced last night on social media that the show will be aired, and they have been swamped with positive messages from happy fans. It wouldn't make commercial sense for the Channel to pull back on publicising the series, so it sounds like a rumour."

After their popular series ended in late 2022, the dynamic duo engaged in several other projects.

These include managing their personal YouTube channel, writing a book, and embarking on a UK tour.

However, this career pivot came after Channel 4 decided not to work further with the couple due to an independent investigation of their conduct during the show by production company Two Rivers Media.

In a leaked audio, claims were made that Angel hurled an offensive term at one of the producers, allegedly calling them a "f***ed up little c**t."

A representative for Channel 4 confirmed: "Following a review we have taken the decision to not work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future."

Two Rivers Media also weighed in, confirming their decision to cut ties with the couple as well: "We can confirm that we will no longer work with Dick and Angel and cannot comment further at the moment."

The couple later issued a counterclaim stating that they had decided to cease their collaboration with the broadcaster in December 2022.

They expressed in a statement: "We know there are lots of stories in the press right now. It's not worth us even trying to comment or give context, because anything can be made into a good headline. We understand. There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that."

Dick and Angel appeared on Lorraine last year where they addressed these reports.

Dick stated: "It's interesting because we were on Lorraine before Christmas [2022], explaining the end of the nine series. As a family, we made a decision that last year was going to be the finale of Escape to the Chateau so we finished. With that, we told everybody at the beginning of the year. That's now nearly two years ago now, everyone's known it was finishing.

"So when the stories sort of came and people started talking about the end of what we were doing, it wasn't news, it was something that had happened a long time in the past. We made the decision just not to get involved in any of the conversations."

Angel chimed in: "Our [late] Queen said: 'Never complain, never explain! ' You know, I think that was just the best way because for us, none of it made sense. We had made that family decision a long time ago that it was the right time that Escape to the Chateau had come to its natural end."

The Mirror has contacted Dick and Angel's representative for comment as well as Channel 4.
