How do I check my dog's AKC points? ›

When you enter the online store, you will notice a box in the left navigation labeled “AKC Reports.” From this list, select “Pedigrees/Reports.” Then select “Points and Awards.” If you have not yet logged in, you will be prompted to do so. Select a dog from the drop down menu.

“Conformation” is the official name for “dog shows”

The American Kennel Club recognizes Breeders of Merit for their dedication to breeding purebred dogs with the appearance, temperament, and abilities that are true to their breed standard, and for their commitment to health screening and 100 percent puppy registration.

The American Kennel Club requires a dog to obtain a total of 15 points with two major wins (a major win is worth three points or higher) to become a champion.

The AKC, PAL and You

Some might be enrolled in the AKC's Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL), a program that allows unregistered dogs of registrable breeds to compete in AKC Performance and Companion Events, as well as specific breeds in the FSS® Program that are eligible for Companion Events.

AKC National Championship is the only all-breed dog show organized and presented directly by the AKC, the nation's oldest and only not-for-profit purebred dog registry. Dogs entered are from 50 states, Washington, D.C. and around the globe. The event offers over $150,000 in prize money, the largest of any U.S. show.

The Best in Show winner will be awarded $50,000. This show celebrates the heart and soul of the sport of purebred dogs by awarding the AKC Breeder of the Year Award. Seven individuals are honored who have left a great impact on a specific breed.

A dog qualifying for a championship at a conformation show has the designation Champion or "Ch." (or "GCH" for Grand Champion) added as a prefix to its registered name (but not to its call name, the name by which the dog is actually called.)

What is the highest level of AKC obedience? ›

Upon completion of the UD title, dogs may earn the Utility Dog Excellent (UDX) when they receive qualifying scores in both Open B and Utility B at 10 separate trials. The Obedience Trial Championship (OTCH) title is often referred to as the “PhD” for dogs, is the highest obedience honor a dog can receive.

At the end of every regular class, judges award placements and ribbons. Blue ribbons are awarded for first place, red ribbons for second, yellow for third place, and white for fourth.

About the Breed

The Golden Retriever is a sturdy, muscular dog of medium size, famous for the dense, lustrous coat of gold that gives the breed its name. The broad head, with its friendly and intelligent eyes, short ears, and straight muzzle, is a breed hallmark.

It will show you if your dog has champions in its bloodline. This means that at least one of its parents or grandparents earned an AKC Championship title. You might see a CH (Conformation Champion), FC (Field Champion) or MACH (Master Agility Champion) affixed to the front of one of your dog's ancestor's names.
