Cherry Pie Strain: Flavor, Effects, and Benefits | STIIIZY (2024)

In this modern world of cannabis hybrids, every day new weed strains are popping off in the culture. Few of them stand the test of time to still be talked about years later. Cherry Pie has evaded that destiny.

For good reason, Cherry Pie has won multiple awards, including 3rd place in the 2014 Denver High Times Cannabis Cup in the Medical Sativa Category.

Here's why you’re missing out if you still haven’t tried Cherry Pie.

Cherry Pie Strain: Flavor, Effects, and Benefits | STIIIZY (1)

The genetics and appearance of the Cherry Pie strain

Cherry Pie plants are usually bushy with wide lateral branching. They produce moderate-to-high yields of small-to-medium sized flowers. The bud structure is dense with forest green leaves, a flurry of orange pistils, and an all-over coat of white trichomes, making the Cherry Pie very resinous and sticky.

It was created between 2003 and 2004 by Ken Dumetz, better known as PieGuy of Powerzzzup Genetics, and Jai Chang, better known as Jigga, two members of the Bay Area’s famous Cookie Family. The Cookie Family members have bred many well-known genetics like Gelato, Sherbert, and of course, Girl Scout Cookies.

Cherry Pie is a cross of F1 Durban Poison and Granddaddy Purple. Combining the best attributes of both parents brings out a vibrantly colorful flower with potent, well-rounded effects. It is a high-THC cultivar.

How the Cherry Pie strain is grown

Depending on the phenotype of the plant, sometimes Cherry Pie flowers will have a slight touch of purple, but mostly expect green and orange hues from this unique hybrid. Colder growing temperatures can sometimes trigger purple coloring in cannabis flowers.

Cherry Pie can be grown indoors or outdoors, depending on your specialty. It can be difficult to grow, for some novice cultivators who are still getting their growing feet under them. Under proper grow techniques and supervision, Cherry Pie can be resilient against diseases and pests.

Success growing Cherry Pie outdoors requires a warm, Mediterranean-like climate, with consistent daytime sunlight. It typically flowers in 8-to-9 weeks indoors and towards late October when grown outdoors.

How does Cherry Pie smell and taste?

Cherry Pie is a dessert strain through and through. A few whiffs of its buds makes most consumers say that the strain is sweet, spicy, earthy, and fruity.

This extremely loud (pungent)-smelling flower bursts with a variety of different aromas and flavors. When Cherry Pie is properly cured, a sweet, rich cherry flavor jumps off its buds, accented by light herbal and floral notes. As you break down the buds, you will get dank, hashy notes, followed by a bit of dough and sweet fruit on the exhale.

Cherry Pie’s terpene profile brings together the hoppy and mango notes of myrcene; the peppery notes of caryophyllene; the citrusy essence of limonene; and linalool, which is found in lavender and grapes.

What are Cherry Pie’s effects?

Most consumers report a mix of physical relaxation and blissful euphoria after consuming Cherry Pie.

The effects mount slowly, beginning as a progressive feeling of relaxation. As the high settles in, you may find that your worries disappear and your mind clears up a bit. Once the feelings settle in, you’ll feel a brief mental stimulation. In the end, you’ll feel a heavy physical relaxation that may leave you feeling a bit stuck to the couch in a lazy (but not necessarily sleepy) stupor.

With its high potency and comforting effects, Cherry Pie is an excellent strain to consume in the late afternoon or evening when it’s time to wind down. The powerfully relaxing high will leave you feeling content in chill mode for a few hours.

Depending on how the high affects you, Cherry Pie could be great for creative activities like writing or painting, or simply decompressing from a long day.

That said, remember that as withall cannabis strains, the experience varies by the individual. We all feel different degrees of highs due to our different tolerances, physical makeups, and endocannabinoid system (ECS), what our body uses to process cannabis compounds.

That said, Cherry Pie can be both a head high and a body high. Initial onset tends to start above the eyelids, eventually resulting in a face full of euphoria. As the high settles in, it spreads to the rest of your body, resulting in the long-lasting laziness that people typically feel from some properly grown (and cured) Cherry Pie.
