"It was two years ago that we decided to end the Escape to the Chateau series,” he said. The Château de la Motte-Husson is a Neo-Renaissance style château. It is located in the small market town of Martigné-sur-Mayenne, in the Mayenne département of France. The château is currently owned by Dick Strawbridge and his wife Angel.

Chateau DIY has run for 3 series and series 4 is currently in production. The brand has been extended with Christmas specials that aired starting in 2021. A further series titled Chateau DIY: Living the Dream, focusing on one chateau per episode, was commissioned in 2023 for More4.

Tim and Margreeth live together in the Château des Lys, or the “Castle of Lillies” set in the Somme valley. Before they came here, they'd never experienced anything remotely like the topsy-turvy life that they lead now.

Karen and Paul owned and commuted to the château for 16 years. The idea had always been to ultimately retire there. Sadly the pandemic has put an end to their dreams and now they have sold their property. But they don't regret a single day of their adventure.

When Stephen and Jennifer retired, they uprooted their lives to follow their daughter to France. In fact, the couple went on to live on Angel and Dick's estate which is a stone's throw away from the home.

Dedication, consistency, and the right guidance are the three pillars of the compelling tale of Angel Strawbridge's weight loss. Transforming from 176 pounds to 143 pounds, Angel has been an inspiration. Not only did she switch to a healthy lifestyle, but she also focussed on well-being.

They've no plans for moving back to the UK, and are very happy where they are. Which means, if you're interested in a stay at Château de la Ruche on the Pays de la Loire, you'll have time to consider booking a break with Tim and Rebecca too.

Over 30 years later they are still together, running the Château du Puits es Pratx with the help one of their children in the South of France.

Has the Escape to the Chateau been sold? ›

"This is the long haul," Strawbridge said of the Chateau's place in the family. "We've had lots of people saying, 'Oh they're selling', but this is our forever home and Arthur and Dorothy know that and we plan for the future. "When we've been away on tours and then we come back, it's stable.

“The chateau had gone into liquidation in 2008, when the owner – who had planned a huge hotel complex on the site – lost investors due to the financial crisis,” says Tim. Since then, the once-beautiful chateau had been left empty, squatters had moved in, and there was a lot of damage.
