Château La Perrière has been part of Karen, Paul, and their kids Thomas and Katie's lives for over sixteen years. And visiting and restoring their home has been a labour of love – and an adventure too. Now they've sold up and are moving on to the next chapter of their lives.

When Stephen and Jennifer retired, they uprooted their lives to follow their daughter to France. In fact, the couple went on to live on Angel and Dick's estate which is a stone's throw away from the home.

Tim and Margreeth live together in the Château des Lys, or the “Castle of Lillies” set in the Somme valley. Before they came here, they'd never experienced anything remotely like the topsy-turvy life that they lead now.

Moving to France

The Barnard-Browns purchased their dream home, Château de la Fare, located in a rural area, near Ales in the south of France, in 2012. Restoration work did not start in earnest until Philip's retirement in 2019 when they moved to France permanently in 2012.

After 18 years of renovating a Chateau and running a holiday business in France Steve & Angela have now returned to the UK where they are expanding the Clearway business to include some new exciting garden products.

"It was two years ago that we decided to end the Escape to the Chateau series,” he said. "We made the decision because the kids are growing older, and all the parallel activity was not sustainable at this level.

While the venue is primarily used for weddings – with packages ranging between £19,000 and £38,000 – there are other options to choose from. The couple bought their Chateau for £280,000 and it is now reportedly worth approximately £2 million.

Scotsman Paul is a quantity surveyor by trade and Donna, from Hartlepool, a property and facility consultant. They met and married in the UK in 2003, then bought a 400-year-old cottage to refurbish in central Scotland.

Johnny and Ashley are now moving on to a new project in southern France, but they will miss their beautiful chateau an hour from Bordeaux. “You could do a million things here,” says Ashley. “The possibilities are endless.”

Happily Ever After: Well most of the Chateau owners have kept their dream alive. However there was places that no longer have their presented owners and in the case of Nicole and Stephan of Château d'Humières, they broke up while trying to restore Château de Lucheux which shows how a building can affect everything.

Jonathan and Michael's adventure at Chateau de Jalesnes is now coming to an end, with just two more apartments left to finish and their Australian friends and partners David and Jenny taking over day-to-day management.
