Why does Z Broly only say Kakarot? ›

As shown in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Paragus was a strict father, forcing Broly to adopt a highly formal persona in front of strangers. This upbringing may indicate that Broly feels like calling Goku by his preferred name is more polite.

In a way, the two try to care for each other, and it is Cheelai who ultimately uses her Super Dragon Balls wish to save Broly. Even though she could have requested something selfish, Cheelai put Broly before herself, and the film ends with the duo living together on an outlying planet with their friend Lemo.

When Goku asked what happened to the South Galaxy, Paragus explained that he accidentally said Broly's trigger word, "Kakarot" , causing him to rampage and destroy the aforementioned galaxy.

While Goku doesn't grieve over his lost race, Vegeta does, so referring to his only fellow survivor by his given Saiyan name is a way for the Prince to keep their people alive in spirit. As their relationship has evolved in Dragon Ball Super, Kakarot has become closer to a sign of respect.
