Biscuits and Gravy Casserole is an amazing mix of biscuits, sausage, eggs, cheese, and country gravy in one perfect dish. It will make any Southerner proud!
This recipe is the most viewed, pinned and liked recipe by readers of Miss Information. It’s also won Fave Southern Recipes top 100 in 2015 and 2016!
Last week I found arecipe for a breakfast casserole using gravy and biscuits and it was good, but I was missing the eggs! I decided to make my own spin on it and make it a little more traditional or a little more southern should I say. Biscuits with country gravy are one of my all-time favorite breakfasts and I will order that over anything given the chance. If you like biscuits and sausage gravy you are gonna LOVE this biscuits and gravy casserole.
This biscuits and gravy breakfast casserole is light and fluffy, honestly, it’s just right.
Thebiscuits come out airy and browned. It has everything you want in a southern breakfast including fluffy eggs, sausage, and creamy country gravy. It’s a southern breakfast in one dish and it might just make you want to become a southerner if you’re not!
Iuse pre-cooked sausage crumbles from Jimmy Dean to save time but you can cook up a roll of sausage first if you wish. I use my favoritekitchen shears to cut up the biscuits and it takes me about 10 minutes to throw this breakfast casserole together.
I make this biscuitand gravy casserole with Pioneer Brand Country Gravy Mix, it is the best country gravy mix I have found. I prefer the peppered variety but if you don’t like a lot of pepper just go with the original.

Update on this recipe from Miss Information Reader Lee –Just wanted to let everyone know that this delicious biscuits and gravy casserole recipe freezes amazingly. I’ve had it in the freezer for a little over a week and it comes out almost exactly like it was fresh if cooked on 1 lb defrost in the microwave. Of course, reheating this in the microwave is going to make the biscuit part drier than it was when it was fresh, but it doesn’t change the consistency of the recipe enough that it’s not still amazing. I’ve got the casserole cut up into bar-sized portions and I would recommend putting a portion in the refrigerator overnight to avoid having to heat it up in the microwave for so long or perhaps to cook it covered on the stove top on low setting.

We love this cassarole! It's a Christmas morning tradition now. It's perfect for feeding a lot of people without a ton of work.

Can you make this in a crockpot?

Hi Kaye, I tried it once and it did not do well, it was overcooked and hard on the bottom. If you figure out the secret please share it and I'll add your comment to the post as an update!

Hi Kelley! I just have to thank you for this recipe! I've made it dozens of times. At home, for a breakfast potluck, while visiting my sister, at family get togethers. EVERYONE loves it. I love that it's so easy to put together and I don't have to slave in the kitchen to make a meal to feed a lot of people. It's now a go to for me, my coworker and my sister! So thanks again, I love this recipe!

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy it, it's one of my favorites too!

I don't think so but if you try it let me know if it works

Can that biscuit be reheated by oven? If yes, how the aluminum foil be used when the biscuits are reheated in oven? Thank you very much.
Reply
Yes, it can be reheated and I would cover with aluminum foil to keep it from browning further. You can also scoop some onto a plate and microwave it to reheat it.
Reply
I love this recipe more than others, but need to make this for work! Can this be done in a crockpot so it will be hot when it is time to eat?
Reply
I tried it in a crockpot once and when it was on warm it dried it out and shriveled up. I have used a thermal casserole carrier with heat packs with success before.

I found that when microwaving a leftover portion, the biscuits can be kept moist nicely by covering the plate with plastic wrap. This recipe is great in its pure form, but with the egg mixture, it's so easy to make "omelette" variations (small can of mushrooms, finely chopped onion and even finely chopped green pepper would work well)
Great tip and I love the idea of adding in some veggies

I just love gravy and biscuits and so does my husband. I fix it for him every now and then. I plan on fixing it for him on Christmas morning. It's like a routine here in our home on Christmas morning. I hope this turns out OK!!

I've never had it turn out bad, it's pretty simple so you should have no problem. I hope you enjoy it, buiscuts and gravy are my favorite!

What size roll of Grands biscuits do you use? 8 ounces? 16 ounces?

16 Oz the big can, thanks for asking I will update this in the recipe!

Thank you so much for this recipe! I have never had luck with breakfast casseroles - always gummy or runny in the middle, I had just about given up. I made this for breakfast this morning and I am literally jumping up and down like Tom Cruise on the sofa - it WORKED! It was amazing! No gummy biscuits, it was delicious. Everyone needs to try this recipe :)

Hi, do you throw in cooked sausage with grease and all or separate out? If you don't throw grease in do you ever make sausage gravy from it instead of making the pack variety? Thanks for your help!
Reply
Hey, Dan if you cook sausage instead of using the precooked crumbles you will want to drain it first. I have not tried to do that but I'm sure it would be delicious! You will want to have about 1 1/2 cups of gravy if you make it that way.
Reply
How would you go about making this in a crockpot? Baking times, etc.....I tried this in the oven and loved it so much, thought I would give it a try to feed guests coming for my daughters wedding.
Reply
Hey Denise, I tried it in a crockpot and it overcooked when I set it for 6 hours on low. IF you can hook your crockpot up to a timer I would try it on low for about 3 hours and that should do it otherwise everything else should be the same. Let me know how it works.
Reply
This was great! I made a few changes by making my own gravy, and layering it biscuits, gravy, cheese, eggs. I loved it!
Reply
Thanks Sarah, glad you enjoyed it!

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has tried this in a crockpot overnight? Mornings are a bit hectic around here and I was looking for something to take to a brunch right after the kids get on the bus. Making it in a crockpot would be the easiest way to get them and me out the door w/my sanity intact!
Reply
Not that I know of. If you have a Ninja you for sure could because it lets you bake. I am sure it would do fine you would just have to watch it. My guess is that it would take about 2 -2.5 hours but again that is just a guess. Let me know if you try it and I will add those directions to the post!

Thanks Lindsey, I'm so glad you enjoyed it and good to know you can do it the night before!
Reply
Can you freeze it without baking it first, then pull out of freezer and bake when you want?

Yes

Thank you for sharing your experience with making the night before. I have a breakfast feast to prepare for co-workers and am happy I don't have to wake at 5 am to prepare this. I hope it turns out as yummy as everyone says.

My daughter has been wanting biscuits and gravy for awhile now. I decided to make this "breakfast for dinner" tonight and they family loved it. Now we have leftovers for breakfast tomorrow morning! I served this with a fruit salad. It was easy to put together. I will make it again.
Reply
I\'m so glad they liked it, thanks for coming back to comment. Yes I often heat mine in the microwave the next day.

I made this for brunch today and it was delicious! My three young boys loved it too. I used the frozen bag of Pillsbury biscuits just because I love the way those biscuits taste on their own. I let them thaw completely though and then cut them up. I also used half and half instead of milk. I will definitely be making these again!.
Reply
Thank you Michelle for popping in to let me know! I\'m so glad you enjoyed it!
Reply
YUM! We loved this and I'm making it again tonight. It did dirty more dished than I like to wash, but it's worth it. I also felt like the ingredients went further than if I cooked them separate. Yay!
Reply
CAN YOU MAKE THIS THE NIGHT BEFORE? THANKS
Reply
I have not ever made it the night before because it\'s so quick to put together but I would assume you could
Reply
I'm making this right now! I'm so excited about it! I added hash browns in mine along with everything else. The house smells amazing, and my belly is grumbling. I can't wait!

Oh what a great addition! Let me know how you liked it

It was AMAZING!!!! Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe!
Reply
Yea, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for letting me know.
Reply
About how many servings does this make?
Reply
It depends on if you serve anything with it, I would say 8 if it\'s by itself
Reply
Could you use bacon or sliced ham and turkey in place of the sausage?
Reply
Sure you can also use bacon, ground lean beef, chicken or turkey
Reply
Do you make the grave then pore over i mean cook it first thank you
Reply
Yes make the gravy according to package directions then pour it over
Reply
So I want to male t his and was wondering on the gravy do you mix it with the water then just pour over biscuits with cooking the gravy cause I assume it will cook up in the oven
Reply
Hi Lisa, I have never tried it that way, I always cook it on the stove top before I pour it over so that it thickens and is well blended
Reply
Has anyone assembled this the night before and baked the following morning? Just wondering how this tastes best -- if assembling the night before do the biscuits still bake and get fluffy after sitting in the eggs & gravy all night? Thanks -- can't wait to try.
Reply
I have never tried it that way because it is so quick to throw together in the morning. Some of my readers have tried it and not had any issues.
Reply
Can this be made the night before & baked in the morning?

Yes it can, hope you enjoy it!
Reply
Love this!!! added a small can of diced green chiles to the egg mixture and used 1 cup of milk instead of water to the gravy packet...Yum!!! My 16 year old grandson's favorite!!!
Reply
Could you make your own gravy for this?!?! And, how much gravy is needed?!?! Thanks...
Reply
Yes you can it's about 1 to 1 1/2 cups
Reply
Thanks

I have gluten free biscuit mix that I would have to use.... could I just do little balls or drops in the bottom of the pan? otherwise, this sounds AMAZING!
Reply
I don't see why not as long as it is raw biscuit dough it should be fine. Let me know how it turns out and I will put an update at the end of the post!
Reply
OMG yum! Kim
Reply
So I made it, with eggs, and now I'm confused about your comment about why you couldn't make it because you didn't have eggs on hand, but you did make it with eggs?!
Reply
LOL I didn't say I didn't have eggs on hand, I said I tried another recipe and the link to it is at the top of the post and she did not use eggs in hers, she used potatoes. I said I was missing the eggs when I made HER recipe so I made this one with eggs.
Reply
I like this better than the one with eggs. I don't like the extra potato either she put in it...

This was amazing, I made this for breakfast this morning, the house smelled wonderful as it baked and it was delicious, this casserole included everything we love in a Sunday breakfast!! What size pkg of the gravy mix. I buy a different brand and it makes 2 gallons. About how much gravy is there once you make it. Maybe 2 cups, 3 cups?
Reply
About 2 cups
Reply
I wonder if you can add potatoes to this?
Reply
I am sure you could but I would add a little more gravy or egg so it's not to dry

Do you cook the gravy or just mix it and pour over? Thanks
Reply
You cook it but it is just boiling water and adding the packet and stirring, really easy
Reply
UhOh.....just read this. I have this recipe in the oven right now BUT I did NOT cook or thicken gravy before pouring over the casserole. Just wisked gravy package together with the milk/water solution and poured it over. Do you think it will need more baking time? I guess I will find out. We love breakfast casseroles and wanted to try this one. Thanks, Linda
Reply
LOL I did the same thing one time Linda and it turned out fine! Hope you enjoy it!
Reply
Looks awesome - question though, you don't bake the biscuits before assembling this dish? Thanks!
Reply
Nope no need and you don't have to soak it overnight like most egg casseroles
Reply
Not to be lewd, but how big was your sausage package?

OMG you just gave me the biggest laugh!!!!! It was what they call a roll package, link to see here <a href="http://jimmydean.com/products/Sausage/Roll-Sausage/http://jimmydean.com/products/Sausage/Roll-Sausag... />
