Birria Ramen is now my ultimate comfort food! Ever since my Birria Tacos obsession, I have been trying so many Birria recipes and this ramen is too good and worth sharing! The best of both worlds: rich and deep Birria flavors mixed into cooked noodles. SO GOOD!
If you’re a serious Birria lover, this recipe is for you! Remember the tutorial I shared on making perfectBirria Tacos, and later myLamb Birria? Well that’s seriously all you need for this Birria ramen!
What is Birria
Birria has gone viral lately on social media and since then so many have attempted to look for it, try it and make it at home.
Literally, it means ‘’Exquisite savory dish, full of culture and tradition.” The dish “Birria” is an old Mexican dish traditionally made from goat, but you can also make it with lamb, pork, veal, and beef. It’s a dish that celebrates the richness and depth of flavors in Mexican cuisine.
The classic Birria is a meaty stew that is slow-cooked to perfection and is a combination of spicy, sweet, tangy, smokey and savory flavors. Classically the meaty birria goodness is stuffed in crunchy tacos, and the tacos are dipped in the sauce (stew).
The fascinating part about Birria is that the meat is so tasty, but the stew is also so rich! And the stew is used for dipping, slathering, everything! So this birria ramen is just another way to enjoy that!
Birria Ramen
Birria ramen is a basically what the name is: a perfect blend of birria meat, birria sauce and ramen noodles. The ramen comes out rich with a savory, spicy, sweet, sour, smokey and unique Mexican flavor.
Imagine tasty cooked beef shreds (or lamb as I shared in this Lamb Birria) and the birria consommé which is a rich stew with flavors of chillies, adobo, herbs and spices dressing up cooked noodles. As simple as this sounds, it’s also just luscious! You can’t miss it!
To serve the birria ramen, you can go with a simple diced onions, jalapenos and cilantro –just as you would serve any Birria Tacos. You can likewise serve this up with cabbage, veggies, soft boiled eggs, and whatever you like your noodles to be served with.
Birria Ramen Ingredients
- Birria stew: This is the sauce and base of your ramen. It’s a natural byproduct when making Birria Tacos. It’s the secret sauce, the flavor component that makes this dish unique! If you’re looking for an even deeper flavor, makeLamb Birria and use that stew!
- Birria Meat: Beef or lamb work just as well here, and you can find a full tutorial with video on the website for making both! Just choose your favorite.
- Ramen noodles: There are so many, and I mean SO MANY good ramen noodle brands out there, so absolutely pick the one you prefer. Make sure you cook it separately according to the package instructions.
- Toppings: The finale. Toppings are really whatever you like, whatever you have on hand. I chose to make it a real Birria tasting bowl so I went with Birria toppings only. Diced white onions, sliced jalapeños, chopped cilantro and lime wedges. If you love veggies, go for it, soft boiled eggs, cheese..etc just go for it!
How to Make Birria Ramen
Before you attempt to make this dish, you’ll need to prepare eitherBirria Tacos recipe without the taco part, or theLamb Birria. Make sure to save the birria stew and meat separately. Alternatively I love making this dish when I have leftover birria 🙂
At that point you’re going to have the noodles cooked according to the package instructions.
So now you’re basically assembling the birria ramen dish. Start by pouring over the hot tasty birria consommé over the cooked noodles and toss them well. Keep adding the sauce until you feel that your noodles are as saucy as you prefer them to be. Make sure to toss that really well so that the noodles soak up and absorb all the flavor.
Now it’s time to pile over the melt in your mouth delicious shredded cooked beef or lamb. Be generous with the meat and make sure there’s enough sauce to cover the meat as well.
Now finish off with the toppings of your choice: I used diced onions, jalapeños, cilantro and lime wedges.
Add in some chopsticks and ENJOY!!
