I have investigated 2 of these products – Advocare Slim and Plexus Slim.

Plexus Slim claims to have done a clinical study to prove that their product aids in weight loss. It also states that these statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Advocare does not appear to have done clinical studies, but that does not necessarily mean that the product does not work!

Both products have many reviews from people claiming to have lost weight.

So, are they effective, and more importantly are they healthy? I am always concerned about adding unhealthy ingredients to my diet for no reason. I may lose weight, but what am I actually eating or drinking?

The aim behind an appetite suppressant is to make you eat fewer calories. Excess calories get stored in the body as fat, and you gain weight.

The product also has metabolic enhancers. These components speed up the rate at which you burn fat. If you burn fat faster than you can store it, you will not gain weight.

Who is Advocare Slim?

The Advocare Company was founded in 1993 by Charles E Ragus. They offer a range of products aimed at weight loss, health, and overall well-being. The company has a multi-level marketing approach. You can buy the product on their website. If you become a ‘Preferred Customer’ you will be offered special discounts. The product is also available on Amazon.

Advocare Slim contains Garcinia Cambogia Fruit Extract in a quantity of 2400mg.

Garcinia Cambogia is known as a popular weight loss supplement.

It comes from a fruit of the same name, also commonly known as the Malabar tamarind. High amounts of HCA, or hydroxycitric acids, are found in the peel of the fruit. This is an active ingredient believed to be responsible for weight loss.

Some studies have shown that this ingredient does cause weight loss. Others have not!

Is Advocare Slim cost-effective?

This product is currently listed on their website at $32.95 for 14 stick packs. That works out to $2.50 per serving.

Advocare Slim is easy to use. It comes in a packet that simply requires opening, mixing with a glass of water, and shaking. There is no scooping or measuring required.

Advocare Slim comes in a choice of flavours. I always enjoy a variety especially if I am going to be drinking this on a daily basis. Getting bored is a fast way to be turned off the product.

I was disappointed to see that Advocare does use both natural and artificial flavours for these drinks. This for me is a negative! I don’t want to drink excess artificial ingredients in order to get a cool-tasting drink.

It acts to control your appetite and also supplies you with energy to prevent you from feeling tired or listless because you are eating less.

Like Advocare Slim, this product is also an appetite suppressant aimed at making you eat fewer calories. Metabolic enhancers are also present to speed up the rate at which you burn fat.

Who is Plexus Slim?

Plexus is also a MML, multi-level marketing company. The website is very focused on attracting people to become ambassadors for the product and start your own business.

As a customer, you can buy from an ambassador who is supposed to have your best interests at heart. If you prefer not to have that personal contact, you can find Plexus Slim on Amazon.

Plexus Slim also contains Garcinia Cambogia Fruit Extract. It is listed as part of the Plexus Slim Blend, which offers a total of 531mg for all the ingredients in the blend.

This product is currently listed on Amazon at $93 for 30 single serve packs, That works out to $3.10 per serving.

Both products contain this extract which is known to be an appetite suppressant. Advocare offers 2400mg. Plexus Slim does not specify the amount but combines it into a general Plexus Slim Blend which offers a total of 531mg. This is a far lower amount.

Green coffee bean extract

Both products contain Green bean coffee extract which may be an effective weight loss aid.

Advocare Slim lists this component as 200mg. Plexus Slim combines the amount into its Plexus Slim Blend, so I cannot see the exact amount.

Green bean coffee extract is known to help improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It also works as an antioxidant.

Chromium

Both products offer 200mcg of Chromium.

Chromium is used in the body to break down fats and carbohydrates. It also aids in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol.

How Are They Different?

The products differ in a few key areas. Here are the differences.

Caffeine

Many people prefer to stay away from caffeine. Plexus Slim does not list caffeine. The website states that caffeine is contained in the extract from the green coffee bean. This bean contains less than 2% natural caffeine, which they consider to be negligible.

Advocare, however, does list caffeine as part of the ingredient list. One serving will give you 120mg, which is equivalent to amounts found in some energy drinks.

Sweeteners

Sweeteners are always a concern when you plan on consuming large quantities of a new product.

Advocare contains sucralose. Sucralose is an artificial sweetener, many times sweeter than natural sugar. Reports are mixed as to whether this ingredient is harmful, with many stating that it is not, unless consumed in huge quantities.

Plexus Slim uses Stevia as a natural sweetener. Some people prefer not to take stevia, and many claim that it has a bitter taste.

Taurine

Advocare Slim contains 500mg of Taurine. Plexus Slim does not contain Taurine.

Taurine is found in many energy drinks. It helps to boost physical performance by increasing the flow of glucose to the muscles. Because Advocare claims to boost your energy, Taurine is probably one of the ingredients that help to achieve this.

An average diet will offer between 40mg to 400mg of taurine daily. So the amount in Advocare is slightly above that.

Vegan / vegetarian

Advocare Slim is not a vegetarian product. So it is not suitable for people following a vegan or vegetarian diet. It gets gelatin components from pork and bovine sources. This also makes it unsuitable for a halaal or a kosher diet.

Plexus Slim claims to be 100% vegetarian and vegan.

Sodium

Adding extra sodium to my diet is something I prefer not to do. Advocare Slim does not list sodium as one of the ingredients. Plexus Slim contains 60mg per serving. This equates to 3% of your DV requirement.

It is not a huge amount, but certainly worth taking note of, especially if you need to avoid increasing your sodium intake.

All-natural products

Plexus Slim claims to be all-natural. Advocare Slim uses artificial ingredients for its flavours. For me, this is a vital difference that would sway my decision on which slimming drink to choose.

Allergens

Plexus Slim claims to contain no allergens. They indicate that the product does not have dairy, eggs, peanuts, shellfish, soy, or wheat.

I couldn’t find a clear indication of where Advocare Slim is on this topic.

My Final Verdict

After looking closely at these two products, I see that both have many reviews from people who claim to have lost weight. That is what they are supposed to do, so they are achieving results.

For me, I would go with Plexus Slim.

I like the fact that it is 100% natural and does not contain any artificial ingredients. It is also suitable for vegan, vegetarian, kosher, and Halaal diets. It uses stevia as opposed to sucralose as a sweetener. It also has far less caffeine. A win on all sides!
