ESPN Ithaca 107.1FM/1160AM (WPIE) continues expansive coverage of local, regional, national and international sports including the play-by-play coverage for the New York Yankees, Syracuse Orange basketball & football, and approximately 75 local high school games per year. Simply put, ESPN Ithaca is the Lead Dog.

In addition to being the exclusive play-by-play provider of Section IV athletics in Ithaca, ESPN Ithaca’s team of reporters works diligently to establish relationships with local sports teams and report more than just the final score. From live in-game updates via social media, in-depth halftime shows and exclusive interviews with coaches and athletes, listen to the best in ESPN radio NY.

We host Night of Champions, our annual awards dinner in June, celebrating nearly 60 of the area’s best varsity athletes and coaches. The event not only recognizes outstanding individual achievement, we partner with local businesses to provide $3,000 in scholarship awards to our top male and female athletes and two coaches picks. Another $4,000 in contributions is made to an assortment of area booster clubs through our “Fueling Excellence” program. Visions Federal Credit Union and Guthrie are integral partners in the entire evening including the scholarship monies.

We also feature our afternoon showBetween the Lines, a fast-paced daily sports talk show that airs from 5-6 PM. The show features special guests from around the area, discusses local sports stories, and provides perspective on games and events. ESPN Ithaca’s reporters produce daily SportsCenter Updates and All Access reports hourly throughout the day.

Meet ESPN Ithaca

Todd Mallinson – General Manager

Originally from Massachusetts, Todd received his BA in Communications from Curry College in Milton, MA. During his career in media and advertising sales management, Todd has lead operations in Pittsfield, MA, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA and since 1997 in the Finger Lakes Region. In 2010, he and his wife and business partner Tina Mallinson assumed ownership of ESPN Ithaca-WPIE and acquired Tompkins Weekly in 2016 renaming the company Vizella Media that same year. “We love it here. The diversity, the beauty, the tastes; we live in an area that people come to vacation in, how good is that?”, says Todd. He enjoys running, tennis, and golf along with time with family and friends on Cayuga Lake. Todd is a member of Tompkins Chamber of Commerce for which he has served as long-time board member, he is also a member of Trumansburg Area Chamber of Commerce where he has also served as a board member. Todd also serves on the American Cancer Society’s Coaches & Community v. Cancer Game Changing Gala Committee.

Nick Karski – Operations Manager/Host of Between the Lines/Play-by-Play

An Elmira native and Ithaca College alum, Nick is an 13-time New York State Broadcasters Association Award winner at ESPN Ithaca. You can hear him every weekday on “Between the Lines” at 5pm as he gives his takes on the day’s hottest stories and brings back fun into sports talk. He has also served as a play-by-play voice at ESPN Ithaca. In some of his spare time, Nick enjoys watching his beloved Buffalo Bills, roots for the New York Yankees and has been to more concerts than he can count.

Ryan Gineo – Play-by-Play/Reporter

Originally from Connecticut, Ryan received a BA in journalism from Hofstra University in 2022 and is currently the lead play-by-play broadcaster and reporter for ESPN Ithaca. During his time at Hofstra, Ryan was a member of the sports department at WRHU 88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University, where he was a play-by-play broadcaster for multiple Hofstra sports and was involved in New York Islanders broadcasts. He also contributes to Tompkins Weekly, keeping readers up to date of the local collegiate and high school happenings in the area. When he’s not working, Ryan is either watching any soccer game or listening to a wide range of music.

Sydney Trumble – Digital Development Manager

Sydney, a proud native of Ithaca, is deeply committed to her community and the businesses and individuals within it. With a passion for digital marketing, she offers tailored insights and recommendations to create successful marketing campaigns tailored to her client’s specific needs. Whether it’s crafting impactful print advertisem*nts in publications like Tompkins Weekly, coordinating radio announcements on ESPN Ithaca, or implementing digital strategies such as website design and geo-fencing, Sydney excels in a diverse array of marketing techniques. She meticulously utilizes precise campaign reporting to ensure that marketing objectives are not only met but exceeded.

Outside the realm of marketing, Sydney actively contributes to the Ithaca community by serving as the Varsity Volleyball and Basketball Coach at Ithaca High School and as the Club Director for the Little Red Volleyball Club. Sydney’s academic achievements are noteworthy, holding a B.S. in Business Economics and a B.S. in Sport Management with Cum Laude honors from SUNY Oneonta. As a former collegiate athlete, Sydney’s leadership shone through as she captained the Women’s Basketball Team during her final two years of university. Currently, she is furthering her education at SUNY Cortland, pursuing a master’s degree in Sport Management.

Cameron Perks – Business Development Manager

Cameron is a native of the Homer area and a graduate of St. Bonaventure University. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Digital Media and was also a part of a study abroad program at Trinity College, Oxford University in England.

With extensive experience in copywriting, art direction, advertising, graphic design, photography, and marketing, Cameron is skilled at making valuable and creative decisions. He approaches client problems with a combination of creativity and critical thinking, drawing on his background with the American Advertising Federation (AAF). Cameron is outgoing and positive, making him a pleasure to work with in a professional setting.

In his free time, Cameron is passionate about hiking and photography and hopes to visit every National Park. Reading and playing bass take up the remainder of his hobbies.

Aidan Van Zile – Media, Development, & Brand Specialist

Aidan, a proud Horseheads-Elmira native, with a passion for graphic design, marketing, and voice acting, brings creativity to the workplace. His journey in design and marketing began with a deep-seated love for visual aesthetics and the power of effective storytelling. Through exploring innovative techniques, he has become a versatile creative asset ready to tackle any project. His enthusiasm for marketing is evident in his ability to craft compelling narratives that captivate audiences. He understands that successful marketing isn’t just about selling products but also about connecting with people on a meaningful level. Aidan possesses a distinct skill in voice acting. His ability to breathe life into characters and narratives with his voice brings a dynamic dimension to projects.

Out of the office, Aidan enjoys watching his favorite teams, The Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic. He is always listening to music and doesn’t know what he would do without it.
